No
We've just dumped our generic Freeview HD recorder cos, to be quite frank, it was *****! And have reconnected the Virgin box we have. However, we're missing the ability to pause, record, watch whenever we want etc. I was thinking about getting a V+ box, but all the reviews I can find are pretty old and quite damning.

Has anyone on here got one? Got any feedback? Etc?

we have and its a great thing I personally have no idea how it works but I dont watch tv but babytiger can let you know all you need:thumbs:

Weve got one and its quality for recording, really easy to use and easy to find the stuff you have saved

we've got one too. had it about 3 months and we would never go back now. fairly sure you still get all the old stuff on the standard box as well.

(sorry about grammar 'n' spelling - wine night!)

This is our box we bought it from virgin about 12 months ago when the had the special offer at £30 to buy the box, as for make hdd size I have no idea ....anyone enlighten me

Cheers guys... 3 recommendations from 4 thread viewings can't be too bad. That's the trouble with reviews, people only bother writing something if they're complaining, and you get a one sided view.

Ah, I think that there might be a new Samsung box now? Not too sure... but I've been quoted £69 to BUY it.

We got the box for £30 and installation was free due to us being long standing customers and havint the ultimate package ..mobiles x3 tv,phone and 20mb broadband I dont know what deals are on now but Its cheaper if you are not a virgincustomer and get introduced

We got the FreeSat Humax HD PVR and can honestly say that it has altered the way we watch tv. If I think that I want to watch something, I record it. I look at the list of the recorded stuff and decide what I want to watch most then watch it and ff though adverts. You can do a series record also.

Whilst it is not cheap to buy initially, it is free for ever. There is some HD content that looks great on an LCD tv.

Chris

just found out it can store 80hrs of normal telly or 20hrs in HD

Yes, but Virgin's HD content is pants. The V+ box works really well. Only proble with it is that the user interface is much slower than the standard box.

I dont know the ins n outs of it or any spec, all I wanted was an alternative to sky, something that works in heavy rain and doesnt freeze when theres a shower somewhere in the country like my last sky service lol

I've had the V+ box since they first came out, for recording etc. It's good 80 hrs of storage and really easy to use.

But as said above Virgins HD content is useless, if we could get Sky i would change in a heartbeat.

We've got one & MrsGubby reckons it's the best gadget I've ever bought

Being able to record two channels while watching a third beats the **** out of sky :)

Also remember you are only paying for installation. Virgin retains ownership of the box so if it goes wrong regardless of age they will replace it free of charge. I started with Telewest many years ago and they changed a box that went faulty after 3 years and the same policy continues as Virgin took over.

I actually bought my box ... does it mean if my box develops a fault I have to buy a new one or will it be replaced?

Where did you buy it from?

When I upgraded from standard box to V+ the engineer took the standard box away as he said it was Virgins property.

Another V+ here. Quality of the upscaling of SD is excellent. Normal channels look great via HDMI. The only HD is BBC HD which is annoying as there are many more HD channels on sky now. That said the SD is so good the differences between the same show on BBC1 and BBC HD are not that great.

I watch more recorded than I do live. Not being able to skip the adverts/slow bits annoys me watching live :)

AFAIK you cannot own a V+ box. If it was bought from someone then it was probably not theirs to sell. Someone on the digitalspy forums changed the HDD to a bigger one and got it working but it is not something that you can do 'legally'.

AFAIK I bought mine direct from Virgin I dont think you can buy them anywhere else but I may be wrong

We've had ours for over 12 months now, now hardware issues. Dead easy to use. In fact we dont bother with our DVD recorder...why would you.

The sold bit sounds strange, i phoned them up to enquire about being a Virgin broadband customer, as my SKY HD was playing, got a good quote for a package, including free V+ faster net package etc. Told Sky i would be leaving them due to the issues i was having they actually come out and replaced my HD box to keep my custom, but i shall have the V+ box due to the deal on the Broadband mainly, and having the ability to view/record upto 5 channels would come in rather handy. (Got a built in FreeSat on my TV)

:agree:

Same here.
We have one and although it's slow, it's bloody good. Pausing live TV is just incredible!!

We have had the virgin v+ for about a year now changed from the sky + hd. I think the box is not as good looking as the sky box, but with the virgin you can record two channels while watching a third one, mind you that's if you can find three things on at the same time worth watching. We tend to watch more recorded programmes or delayed then live, like to cut out the ads.The only thing i miss from sky is more content in HD.

The box generally seems to work ok although much like all Virgin gear it is prone to the odd freeze or crash. I've also got an entry in the planner which has recorded for 0 minutes and no matter how many times i select delete it always comes back......not a major issue just niggling.
