Anyone got a Spare $1/4 million?

I never said it couldn't be done Steve, I simply pointed out the issues that would have to be overcome

Plenty of those - but it would just need determination and money to get there!

First we'll need to actually get hold of a coating machine

I could make a coating machine for you if you could afford it.

This is getting interesting, I've already got my chemistry set out of the loft and now the hammer is poised over the piggy bank, how much are we talking Steve, give us a ballpark figure?

I found a 50g tub of silver oxide in the lab earlier, we can't be far off bringing Kodachrome back surely?

In the words of the great Homer Simpson.... "Mmmmmmm, Kodachrome"

I'd love to be able to shoot Kodachrome and have it devved in full colour.

Having a miniature film production facility would be quite good. The little experimental ilford one is 2 stories high and standard warehouse kind of size so not completely insane....

It could be done via a kickstarter project perhaps??

The actual coating line isn't that complex and it's not something which is exclusive to film emulsion coating either. Adhesives are coated in a similar way.

Here is a home made one: https://www.flickr.com/photos/dark_orange/sets/72157603226919391/

The third photograph shows the coating head in use. Emulsion flows out through a slot which is a controlled distance from the film, The base material moves past it at a speed calculated to leave the desired thickness of emulsion on the base.

It is possible to design coating heads which coat multiple layers of emulsion at the same time by flowing one over another before they reach the base material.

Well, first of all, you would have to pay off my mortgage... then you would need to employ me on a basic wage... then you would need to buy all the necessary materials and a place and machinery to do it.

So unless you are Richard Branson or Bill Gates in disguise... probably too much!!

I'd love to be able to shoot Kodachrome and have it devved in full colour.

Stephen Frizza of The Lighthouse Photo Lab in Australia has successfully developed Kodachrome. He says he doesn't want to offer it as a service but he would do it for a ridiculously high price.

So if any billionaires are interested...

Huh doing all that before you even take a shot...that should give the digital guys a laugh.

I will laugh along with them when one of them shows us his DIY sensor making machine!

I am the secret millionaire and I will donate any money necessary..... I am such a secret millionaire that even me and the bank manager don't know it.

There's actually a thin film casting line sitting unused in the lab, it's for ceramic slurry but photo emulsion is basically the same innit?

The dream draws ever closer...

*Insert maniacal laughter*

You my young friend are just one lab accident away from destroying the planet....:runaway:

I've lost a few arm hairs but so far nothing too cataclysmic don't worry.
