Im looking at the Lowepro Super Trekker AW II as my next bag. Im sure i'll collapse under the weight before I outgrow something like that. Has anyone got one or know of any decent reviews? I could do with seeing some pictures of it. Im also interested in the slightly les extreme Pro Trekker AW II and Photo Trekker AW II. anyone use either of these? Again, any decent reviews or photos would be appreciated. What are they like for non camera stuff, ie clothes, food etc?

:)

Not sure if it helps - but I have a Mini AW version, so much smaller than you're looking at

Usually, I have the D2Xs, 12-24 f4, 70-200 f2.8, 90 macro, 18-70, flashgun, odds & sods, pen & notebook, knife, phone, med-kit, lunch, coffee, binoculars, spare socks & jumper in it - and this is the small one! When I go out it can often weight 20lbs

I've had it 3 years and it's as new. Quality is superb, and comfortable on my back. Also been out for hours in the pi**ing rain with no probs

Did that help?

No, that was of no use at all, but thanks anyway.:p

Yeah, thanks thats useful. I'm surprised as to how much you manage to fit in there. Any chance of some pics? Where do you store the coffee, lunch and clothes?

Pics? You have no imagination! I'll try to get round to it tomorrow, off out soon though

Aside from the main 'camera' bit, there's a surprisingly huge pocket on the front - doesn't look much until you start to put stuff in it, then it goes all Tardis-like - the coffee flask isn't one of those all-day jobs, but holds about 3 mugs worth - sarnies, etc. go in this pocket too

I had a Photo Trekker which I swapped out for a Think Tank Airport Acceleration. It was a big bag but I never found a way to pack kit in as efficiently as I have with the Think Tank.

Ive got several Lowepro bags, including Toploader2, Orion, Minitrekker, Phototrekker and Computrekker... Ill try and take a few photos of them tomorrow alongside each other to show the sizes of them.

grumpybadger I've just been checking out the think tank range, they seem to have some very novel ideas and a huge range, thanks for the tip. I'm liking the Urban Disguise bags.

I was going to get a Digital Holster 50, but it took the company over 3 months to get it in stock, so I had given up on the idea by then.

I really rate them and now have Glass Taxi, Airport Acceleration (which I've reviewed on here), Rotation 360 and Airport Antidote. I haven't found a better solution on the market for dealing with big lenses. My Airport Acceleration was my 17 kg hand luggage on a recent trip to Kenya!

Ive just ordered the Lowepro Pro Trekker AW II. Should hopefully arrive tomorrow or Firday, ready for my Seal hunting adventure on Sunday. I decided to go with the Pro in the end as its just on the limit of Airline handluggage limits, so if I packed it tightly I should be able to get it on. It also comes with the daysack and accessory pouches which will be very usefull for me. And although the size of the Super Trekker was very tempting, I think by the time I get a lens big enough to fill it I will be able to afford yet enother bag. The Pro should hoepfully be plenty big enough for me to keep my D40X+BG, Sigma 300mm f2.8 with lens hood on all in ready position, and another body with a wideangle lens on in ready position. I'll do a bit of a review when it turns up :)

Seal sands or Donna nook?

I have a pro trekker it carries my kit, it's getting a bit tight but it still manages, it's comfy and well built (FWIW I would'nt buy anything but Lowepro) the 2 extra bags that fit on the front or sides are usefull for carring waterproofs / food etc outside the main compartment, really like mine. My only problem is I'm a fat bloke and the waist strap is not in a comfy position when I adjust the bag to how I want to carry it, I have added another layer of protection under the front flap, but thats a knee mat or seat also when I need it, in a hide

I hope that helps you decide;)

Seal Sands. Or just round the corner from there. Im heading out with a couple of guys from the local photo club and my dad. You're more than welcome to come along if you want. :)

Thanks for the invite but i'm working :(

I went past Seal Sands today and never saw any seals (where the bridge is), just loads of seagulls.

Well its erm... big! And heavy!:D

It arrived yesterday, and I managed to find time to pack it with my kit. I haven't got any pics yet unfortunately but i'll sort that out when I get time. Initial impressions; Its a little large. I really wouldn't want to go any bigger so im glad I went with the pro over the super. Unloaded its about 5.5Kg and fully loaded im looking at around 15-16Kg which I think is about on the limit of my happy zone. Any more and I think id start suffering. On the positive side though it fits;

300mm f2.8 with 2X teleconverter and D40X body with battery grip, all in the ready position with lens hood on and tripod collar with long quick release plate.
150mm f2.8 with lens hood on, tripod collar and long quick release plate.
30mm f1.4 with lens hood on.
10-20mm with lens hood on.
18-55mm

190XProB with 322RC head, and Gimbal head attached to back.
Lee filter pouch
3x Lee adapter rings+lens caps
4x screw filters
Memory cards and spare battery.
Full cleaning kit including; Rocket blower, cloths, fluid etc
An assortment of coloured cloth, tinfoil(my ghetto macro reflector) and other bits and bobs
Waterproof jacket, waterproof cover for camera
Mosquito replellant and Suncream (covering for all eventualities)

I think that about covers it all. That is all in the bag and one accessory pouch. So I still have the lens pouch and daysack to expand into. Im heading out for Seal Sands on Sunday, so that should provide a good test for my fitness and strength.

As for the layout, it took me good half an hour of playing with the internal dividers until I found a layout that worked for me. Most layout seems to have the longest lens down the middle, with others arranged round the edges. Just to be different, ive moved the long lens down one of the sides. this was mainly to make the remaining space wider in order to accomodate all the filter kit which is quite wide. There is still some spare space in the bag, and I could probably fit something like a 70-200 f2.8 with a bit of juggling, but all my excisting kit seems to fill the space very nicely. As I say, i'll get some pics up when I get time. :)

Blimey, did you win the lottery !!!! :D

I don't think that photos of bags on their own give you an indication of the physical size of these things.....need something for scale.....showing a bag on someones back it probably one of the clearest indications.

Trouble with that is everyone is a different size. Least with camera gear with the bag you know what size the bag will be compared to your camera.

I have the CompuTrekker AW which looks the same size and its a great bag, holds every thing in my signature and more but with my lap top as well it weighs a ton

Sorry for the rubbish quality, but unfortunately I couldn't use my DSLR as its in the shot. I'll probably take some better shots with my dads DSLR when its daytime. but for now, this is how ive got it filled;
