Yes
Hi guys. I'm a photographer, owning a Nikon D300 however I'm a bit rubbish when it comes to phoroshop, a slight bit of cropping and tweaking of colours is fine but no good with much else. My mate has an Italian (not that it matters) friend who saw me with my camera, and assuming I could use photoshop sent me a picture of himself and his girlfriend (taken on a camera phone) that he would like me to make "nice". I've sent him a cropped phot back (changing brightness and contrast) but he wants some special effects adding. Anyone have any tips or anyone kind enough to have a go themselves?

Many thanks

Not a lot you can do to make that a work of art!

Silk purse and sows ear spring to mind.

Thanks MagicMynx, very similar to what I did myself, though a tad lighter.
I agree, it's impossible to mould this into a great picture.
I'm also stumped as to what special effect he would like, which is why I came onto this forum. Perhaps I could add a nice border or something along those lines?

Anyone have any tips

The only tip I can suggest is that if he's on an iPhone he get Red Giant's Plastic Bullet.

Other than that, tell him it's a mobile phone. There's not exactly a lot you can do with it. :)

Ha, I understand the point about the mobile phone, and obviously I would not use it myself. But I've got to work with what he sent me! Which is appauling I know!

(edit: Hi John, nice to meet you earlier :)

You too, got all those images batching in Photoshop at the moment. :)

It really is a pile of poo

However hard you polish a turd it sadly remains a turd :D

I was wondering what the bloke on the right hand side was doing as well

Added a special effect

I've gone a COMPLETELY different direction!

It almost hides how crappy a shot it is (ok a little anyway), I've added a bit of flare to make it look brighter like it was a sunnier day, and also it adds a special effect - what more can they want? :D

the phrase "you can't polish a turd springs to mind"

I think it is a nice pic. I hope you like the changes. They look a lovely couple.

Thankyou all so much for your help, they're all much better than I could manage and have turned an awful snap slightly better:lol:
Thanks again for your help, I will forward him the pictures.
This really is a great forum:thumbs:

You have to find out which of the polished turds he likes best and tell us

Well this is the best I could do in 5 mins. Hope you like it.

Given time I'm sure some expert could pull a half decent images out of this but I don't have time and I'm certainly no expert.

The only real way to improve things would be to clone him out of her life and clone me in. Assuming that suggestion won't go down too well (not least with my wife) you could spend loads of time blurring the background, after cropping and a bit of work in levels. Here's a quick and dirty attempt to give you the idea.

I'll have a shot.
Though a nicer Greek location could be more romantic :D

A little more detail/highlights in the second version

Surely the guy on the right needs a lightsabre in his hands in the star wars mock up??? And shouldn't R2 and C3PO be in their somewhere?
