Anyone gone Nikon sb600 to sb400?

So I had a d40 with sb400 and loved the little thing. Seemed to be just right for my uses indoors for people shot. Easy, small, lightweight

Now upgraded to d90 and have a sb600 but find myself not using it, probably because it's bigger and I don't know how to get the most out of it. The sb400 was a lot easy to use and produced good results.

Sb600 is a great piece of kit, but too advance for my photography skills and ability

Not 'downsized' as I have the 800, 600 and 400 but there are many occasions where, for the convenience of it, I use the 400 - it's a lovely little flash with a good punch and light volume for many simple situations.

400/600/900 here i love the 400 for holidays or shooting inside a limo
i don't use it much but it slips in my bag or pocket and weighs nothing

i think i've made my mind up and going to down grade. sb600 just doesn't get used and is waisted on me i feel on my current condition.

sb400 would be good. only downside is when in portrait you can't angle it as it only tilts. what do people do here?

i can then put the cash towards a better compact for days out when i don't have the dslr

I did the same as you, 400 to 600 and now on a 900. Would never go back. Power and controls are great. Just bounce off and away you go.

Personally , I think you would be better off learning how to use the the 600 although I admit the menu set up is a bit rubbish- still, light is light- understand that and what each setting does and you could use any flash and know what settings are needed for any situation. I just think the 400 is too limited- I know it's not what Ken thinks but...

In those situations people use an sb600 or above

I got the 600 & 900. To be honest I don't get your issue with the 600 at the basic level just have it in auto mode and point the head where you want to bounce I appreciate it is big to the 400 but trust it is tiny to the 900

I haven't downgraded, and I don't think I could, I started out with an sb800 and then a couple of years ago got a sb900, I love them, always on my camera, when ever I am out, be it just out taking shots of the kids on family walks or out shooting macro. The only time I don't use it is for landscape work. I personally would stick with the sb600 and use it, you will soon discover that it is indispensable.
