Usual selection of hangers-on, 'celebrities' and friends of friends ... or did you make it :D

Yep i made it... they all love my  dance and it's going to become a royal signature too:D

Yeah, you all have to call me Sir Matt of Warwickshire, for services to wire wool spinning and reduction of TR6 by all account old Phil really hated the TR6 so was glad to see another one gone...:D

In all seriousness however its easy to become come jaded at some of the headline names that receive gongs while overlooking that the vast majority whom are recognised are done so for their service to the general public within their local communities and that I think is wonderful

It wasn't really all about him TBH it lists a few others that have been smacked by the magic sword.

True but I stopped reading after it became clear it was just a carbon copy of another article I read this evening, honestly the plagiarism is shocking that or all being owned by the same parent and too damn cheap or lazy to write and research articles

The reality is that honours have always available to those with enough money to make the right donation, is that correct, no it's not but it is the fact of situation, so long as the majority of honours go to decent hard working people for what they do for their communities then ultimately that's good in my eyes, people often lambast political parties and or individuals for helping friends/acquaintances et al but the reality is do you help your friends? I know I do it just so happens that these people play with a posher chess set :D

No upgrade for me this time.

Yep the Chief Exec of the Charlton Athletic Community Trust got made an MBE. Thoroughly deserving after all the work he has done for the charity

Though Andy Murray would get something, but maybe they are waiting till after he retires

Apparently Kate Middleton's gynocolgist is on the list. Not sure what he's in line for but at least he's got a look in..........

*groan*

....Yes it is historically correct. Early titles and honours and land/property was indeed given to those who contributed wealth to the realm. A good friend of mine's ancestor captured a Spanish galleon and brought back a large booty of gold to England and duly became an Earl.

Times have changed and others are awarded honours as well. Nothing wrong with any of it in my opinion.

I think that Beckham would deserve it much more than miserable Murray though. But who cares nowadays! The whole system has in some ways been devalued - Such awards should be more discerning.

:)

My mates Auntie was honoured for her charity work - I managed to gather sponsorship for her earlier this year, by doing a Tough Mudder type event, so was chuffed when I saw the her name on the list! :)

The practice of selling honours - usually titles - continued into the C20th, but was reasonably discreet until Lloyd George became Prime Minister in 1916. His office, working through "brokers" like Maundy Gregory, were pretty blatant about it and there was a recognised scale of fees for a knighthood, baronetcy and peerages. The scandal resulted in new legislation in 1925, but I don't think there's much doubt that it continues, albeit more discreetly again.

I don't have any strong views about the honours system. There'll always be controversies and mixed opinions about whether particular recipients deserve them.
