Yes
OK, I've just booked a holiday in Jersey in the summer. The last time I was there I saw that the Jessops prices were quite a bit lower than the UK ones (not quite VAT free)

Anyway I have the notion for a D700. So if any kind soul is out and about in St Helier, then a nosey for the price in Jessops would be most appreciated.

Does this come under equipment? Feel free to move if I've posted in the wrong forum.

Wasn't there something in the budget about closing the Jersey tax 'loophole'?

It was for things costing £18 dropping to £15 trying to get the likes of amazon and HMV to stop making money.
But seeing as all cd etc cost less then no not yet.

VAT is still not charged BUT they try to con us saying it costs to bring it in to island hence not quite VAT free

There was, but I'll be going on holiday and the D700 would fit in my camera bag along with my D300;)

Ok went into Jessops today and the guy said that from the Guernsey store it would cost £1499.95 but they have none in stock, he could not get one delivered as head office are waiting for them to come in, all 247 of them.
I asked what the price would be in Jersey and he said "seeing as they have a 3% tax it would more than likely be £1499.95 + 3% which works out to £1544" so from the Jessops stores on the uk you will be saving around the £150 mark.

Hope this helps you out, if you do decide to buy one from Jersey I would probably phone up make sure they have one and if not order one for when you get there on holiday.

Not that much of a saving then. I was hoping for it to be under £1400. I suppose i could just wait for the d800 and use the extra few months to save up the difference.

We are meant to be VAT free over here but its a right load of cobblers, they stitch us up every time, To be fair though theY do price match very well so if I was in the market for one of these I would be going in to Jessops and saying " this camera is £1700 on your uk stores web site so minus the VAT it should be £1360 " and take it from there.
I did this with the 100-400 lens and they said they would match it, but i bought second hand in the end.

Thats a good idea. As theres every chance the D700 is going to be replaced this year I dont really want to spend over £1400 on one. At £1360 for a new one, I would be tempted.

I might have to get an interest free credit card after all..:nono:
