I always get complained at by my girlfriend that:

1. I never take photos of her
2. I never take photos of her in nice settings
3. I never take her to nice places

So, since her mum lives in East Cornwall, I'm taking her away to Penzance and St. Ives at the start of March (yes...I know...lousy weather but it's the only time off she could get)

HOWEVER...

I want to know some nice locations for photography down there...any ideas (and sample images) greatly appreciated.

I'll be taking;
1d mkIII
430EX (plus remote triggers)
16-35 (from Lensesforhire - thanks Stewart)
28-70
nifty fifty
Tripod

Have at it people!

I'm not from Cornwall but I have spent several months down there and took a week out to (try!) and take photos there last November - though I was mainly scuppered by the late Autumn weather!

As you will be in Penzance, Marazion and St.Michael's Mount across the bay is a must:

Other locations I visited were:
Kynance Cove - Lizard Peninsula

Mullion Cove - Lizard Peninsula

Cadgwith - Lizard Peninsula

Also worth a visit if the weather isn't too poor are Porth Nanven/Cot Valley (though it's a pain to locate the road to it from St.Just), the coastal tin mines near Botallack and the Minack Theatre near Porthcurno. Favourite places of mine also include Sennen Cove near Land's End, St.Ives and Gwithian/Godrevey lighthouse. To be honest, pretty much any part of the coast is a photo opportunity!

If the weather is poor then Geevor Tin Mine at Pendeen was a lot more interesting than I could have hoped for and, as a well preserved mine, had a lot to photograph though I doubt anybody could decribe it as pretty!

Spent a couple of weeks down in St.Ives last summer, this is my favorite pic of the week, but try St.Agnes/Wheel Coates for some mine engine sunsets, Gwithian Towens for sand dunes and surfers, Godrevy Lighthouse for lighthouses and seals. Have fun :)

Eden project is worth a visit on a wet or dry day...
St Ives cant be beat for light - 1000s of artists cant be wrong...
Fowey is a picture perfect town and dont forget Tintagel...

I miss Cornwall, must go back see the folks soon...

lots of nice places to visit in cornwall, as distant lights said, eden project is superb. just remember that the humidity in the rainforest dome is extremely high and there is chance that your camera lens will steam up and camera may get damp in there due to all the moisture and heat.

others have sugegsted places further down cornwall, i think carbis bay is well worth a look

enjoy wherever you decide to visit :)

Been there done that with Eden...and yep, that happened to me!

We're going to be a lot further down, booked places in Penzance and St.Ives so much further!

Myself and philx1979 live in this area of the country so if there's anything you want to know that hasn't been covered above then just shout.

St Mawes and Portscatho are nice places, worth a visit but not a huge amount to do there really so wouldn't budget spending whole days there.
Working your way down from there you have Helford Passage which is very pretty and has some nice pubs (The Ferryboat Inn is good, as is the Trengilly Wartha at Constantine), all the coastal towns along The Lizard are worth a look, and the coast path between them is spectacular in places.
Marazion and St. Michael's mount are worth a look, then Newlyn and Mousehole are small traditional fishing towns which seem to be highly photographed! Carry on 'round and you get to Porthcurno and the Minack Theatre which is a truly stunning location on a nice day.
The views from Lands end are impressive, but the place as a whole is a bit 'meh'.
Around from there you're on your way back up country, the North coast always seems more rugged to me with impressive cliff faces but is an area I know less well. St Ives is definitely worth a visit and it's quite a nice walk from there around to Carbis bay for a drink or two in the hotel before heading back.

Lots of words here with no real advice I'm afraid, but pretty much head to any town on the coast, they're all quite nice!

I walked pretty much all of the north coast of Cornwall last summer (just waiting for the weather to get better to do the south! :() and there are so many places I don't know where to start. You obviously have St Ives, which is really nice, but bery packed in the summer (you should miss the crowd in March hopefully) and also St. Agnes head with the mine workings. Other than that the entire coast is brilliant for coves and cliffs. My favourites include Constantine Bay and Cape Cornwall.

I agree with Dfhaii, Lands end is a bit of a let down, it's essentially just an amusement park, much better if you want to go somewhere like that is Cape Cornwall, which is literally just up the coast and much nicer.

You have the opportunity to see seals all the way along the coast if you are lucky, however two almost guarenteed places are Godrevy/Gwithian (specifically a small bay on the right hand side as you are looking at the island) and Newquay harbour, where there are a few seals that get fed by the fishermen. :D

As for photos, i've posted a few threads in the photo forum, with commentry which may give you some ideas. There are also a few more on my blog and gallery - www.wildaboutlife.net/wp

Some of the locations may be a bit out of reach however, especially in the last one as they can be quite a distance from any roads.

madron moor
the ding dong moor
carn galver
cape cornwall
st just light house
lands end

Thanks everyone...I'll hopefully be able to share some nice landscapes/seascapes and portraits when I get back next week...looking forward to it now!

Be a nice chance to get the mkIII to stretch its legs doing something other than sport.
