Yes
Hi,

One of the assignments on my course is to shoot 5/6 restaurant pictures for a brochure,
I found this place in Barcelona late on in my holiday, last night actually, anyway the food was brilliant and I took a load of pictures

I'm not happy with the inside/outside shots, taken hand-held, needed to be in the daylight but I quite like the food shots

Out of 10 what would you rate these pictures,
If I get A, B, C, D I get a pass

Really considering re-shooting them at the weekend if I get slated on here, but not in Barcelona unfortunately :'(

Thanks guys

#1 highlights a tad burnt, but otherwise ok
#2, #3, #4 good
#5, #6, #7 would have been better on the table without the menu/mat in the way

I'd give you B-/C+

Thanks Mike,

Think I'll redo them,
that will mean a trip to La Tasca's I think this weekend :naughty: ,
probably easier to take pictures of tapas, can order 5 or 6 different ones,

The one in Liverpool is pitch black inside tho, its like eating down a mine,
might have do the Trafford Centre 6 weeks before xmas, should be fun in there :shake:

OK, from what I think would be a tog teacher's point of view:

The focus and DoF leave quite a bit to be desired. The carpaccio looks very artificially coloured in the tube lighting! (Small wonder: it IS). The angle is very un-inspiring. Try level shooting (but tacksharp), with the restaurant as an out-of-focus background (= long shutter times = tripod). Add some stuff for atmosphere: candles, winebottle, filled wine glasses, cutlery, napkin, etc. etc. Make the scene come alive with a specular highlight or two.

Out of 10 I'd give you a C. This time. If your next try isn't any better I'd have to give you a D!

Think I'd agree with the above. You wanted restaurant pictures but you have got food pictures. The sign is boring. The outside shot is not bad - place looks inviting (if a bit gloomy). the inside shot would be OK if you had some happy diners at a table in the foreground.
The meat colour looks plastic and the food shots generally look like they were done for a nasty laminated menu! (and are all soft or out of focus)

You might scrape a pass but I'd try again and think restaurant and environment not just food.

I would give you about a C.

1 - Ok
2 - Don't like this one im afraid. Its not straight, highlights are blown and it generally doesn't do anything for me.
3 - I quite like this. The angle is good, and it show the place as being lively. Looks a bit soft though. I would suggest taking a tripod next time.
4-8 - Not bad, although get rid of the menu underneath the plates, shoot from a lower angle with some relavant items in the background (Wine glass, cuttlery etc) and use a much shallower depth of field. What equipment you using? I would suggest trying to take the food shots with something a like a 50mm f1.8 either wide open or stopped down a tiny bit and quite close up. Other than that, good work.
:)
