I am going on holiday in 2 weeks (:woot:) and am flying from B'ham on Flybe. This will be the first time I've used a budget airline so I am a bit unsure of a couple of things and hope someone can help .

Ive got a couple of daft questions to ask (I've tried their help number but after 30 mins of waiting I gave up. And it cost £1 per minute!! :bang:)

The baggage allowance blurb on the flight confirmation stuff is as follows:-

"Flybe allow a hand baggage allowance of 1 bag weighing up to 10Kg into the aircraft cabin.

Each bag carried in the aircraft hold will be charged at the prevailing rate at the time of purchase. Flybe offer a discounted, non-refundable rate for the first bag paid for on Flybe.com in advance. The current rate is GBP13.00, or GBP7.99 for the first bag booked on flybe.com. The combined weight of all bags must not exceed 20Kg."

Is the combined weight of all bags of 20kg for hand luggage plus aircraft hold luggage or just for aircraft hold luggage?

Flybe has an advanced check in facility. What does that mean and how does it work?

And lastly, will I need to get my own luggage labels or does Flybe have them at the airport?

Thanks in advance for your help and apologies for being a travel numpty :bonk:

I have gone from Southamptyon to both Manchester and Glasgow with Flybe. On Thursday I will be going to Paris with them.

I have had no problems with them at all. Staff are courtious and professional and the aircraft seem well maintained (no wings held on with sticky tape, etc.).

I like flybe, but haven't flown with them since they changed the luggage arrangements.

However I have flights booked with them in August and I have taken the 20kg as being the total in the hold. Not dissimilar to BA except you have the advantage
of being able to have more than one bag.

The identifying labels to route the baggage will be applied at the airport, but I'd always recommend having your contact details inside the bag in case it gets lost.

Advance check in normally means you can check in online before arrival. Not sure if that means you can book a particular seat. This may have changed too. I suspect that you can, but not an emergency exit seat for which they probably charge more.

Yeah, we’ve flown with them. Never again. We flew from Southampton to Paris last summer. Since we were staying for just a long weekend we packed everything into a single bag and paid the extra to check it in. This was just about our only option since we couldn’t take toiletries as carry-on.

We arrived at Paris and there was no sign of our luggage. It hadn’t made it. We were then directed to the Air France desk because FlyBe have no one at Paris to deal with your problems. They couldn’t find our luggage so gave us a number to call. This was a French speaking number only so we spent the entire weekend chasing up our luggage with countless calls back to the UK being told ‘it was arriving soon’. It never arrived and eventually we gave up. Even when we got back to the airport in Paris on our way home they couldn’t find our bag.

When we got back to Southampton after a weekend in the same clothes Flybe told us they sent it to Paris on the next Air France flight so it wasn’t their problem. Basically our luggage had been sitting at the airport in Paris for the whole weekend even though their customer services were unable to tell us this.

Our trip was wrecked and it took us 6 months battling with Flybe to get a token compensation for the emergency toiletries that we had bought. Their customer services and complaints was the worst. We’ll never fly with them again.

My advice. Don’t let your luggage out of your sight. If something goes wrong with your Flybe flight they’ll do nothing to help you.

Andy.

If it says total then take it to mean exactly that and you won't go wrong, go prepared to pay for extra luggage if needs be or try to live out of one carry on bag each. You can buy cheap throw away clothes at your destination and or wash what you have.

Thanks for your replies guys.

Some good reports and some bad which I guess is to be expected. Just have to cross fingers for a good experience.

Am not going to let my photo gear out of my sight that's for sure

I use flybe regularly as they are only one of two operators flying from Guernsey into Gatwick. Generally they are ok but you do need to watch the luggage allowance, 20kgs is everything checked in (so hold baggage), if you pay for one bag you get 20kgs, if you pay for 2 you still get a total of 20kgs etc etc which is incredibly frustrating if you have additional luggage to check in.

Completely agree about their customer services though, the only way to get anything done is to stand in front of them until something gets done.

Used to do a lot of european travelling for work and I probably have used flybe 50 or 60 times in last 4 years, mainly Germany and France to UK. To be honest they are no better or worse than any others. A lot of their routes are ex BA routes and operated by ex BA aircraft, which tend to be pretty good. My job now involves booking a lot of flights for colleagues and we probably book an average of 20 Flybe flights per month. Most are trouble free. One downside is excess baggage. If you go over your allowed weights, costs for the excess are very high.

flew today from edinburgh to cardiff with fly be booked online my partner is disabled very efficient no problems with w/chair etc. Hassle free
