HI All

This is a very cheeky post. If the mods aren't happy please feel free to remove.

We have a big event planned for the 17th & 18th May with the Dog Rescue I volunteer for - Northern SBT Rescue. The event is being held at The Bower House Inn at Eskdale Green in Cumbria.
Last year for the sponsored walk day which is the Sunday we had a photographer come and do portraits for people.

This year we haven't anything organised like that and I wondered if anyone would be interested.

The 17th is a Dog Show and the 18th is the big sponsored walk, usually we get around 150 Staffords walking. The dog show is a bit of an unkown but we have sent out quite a lot of flyers and are contacting the papers this week.

It would be really nice if any general shots taken could be used by Rescue both on our website and in our newsletter obviously with credit to the photographer.
But if you wanted to do portraits that would be something you would organise, take peoples details and do all the arrangements for supplying the prints.

Just in case you are wondering why I aren't doing it. Basically I just won't have time. I normally get some photos on the walk on the way round but I will be 2nd in command over the weekend and I'll will already be running around like an idiot.

Unfortunately this is something we can't afford to pay for but could be a good experience at event photography. The photographer has the chance to make some money from the portrait side of things if they wish.

If anyone is interested please let me know and I'll have a chat with you about it.

Thanks

Andrea

I'd be interested to see the final products if anyone does cover it - I've volunteered to cover my local rescues events this year so would be great to see which shots seem to work best.

Best of luck, hope it goes okay and you raise plenty of money for such a great cause. 150 staffies all in one place...sounds like heaven!

Not that I'm interested, as I'm a noob, but are you offering said person free accommodation??

Eskdale's a nice bit of West Cumbria for those of you who don't know the area, you might be able to sneak in some decent landscape stuff if you went up, and the l'aal Ratty's worth a trip out on!! :)

I wish we could afford to offer free accommodation. Even I have to pay for my room and I work my butt off all year!!

Hi Laura, 150 Staffords in one place is great so long as no-one gets too close to each other.

I've added a couple of photos I took whilst we were walking the planned route for the first time.
Not great shots but gives an idea of the scenery.

These are the type of shots we'd be looking to use in the newsletter / website etc. Obviously on the day there would be loads more people.

I would have loved to have a go with the photographs but unfortunately i'm away then :(

Hi all

Just thought I'd let you know that Simon has taken up the challenge to photograph our event.

I can't believe its only a couple of weekends away now. Not quite sure where the time has gone.

Thanks Simon, I really hope you have a good time and enjoy the weekend.

I would have replied, I have a Wedding on the 17th though 8 am till 2 am, will be either sleeping or still downloading on the 18th !

Hope the event goes well, it a gorgeous area !

Thanks Ian, I remembered you had a wedding that weekend from the Wildlife park thread. Hope it goes well, 8am - 2am is one heck of a long day.

I hope our event goes well too, it pays for the kennelling and neutering for the next year.

Its the first time at this venue, its a bit more off the beaten track than last year but hopefully that won't put people off, in fact I'm hoping a new route will pull more people in. We do have people booked in from as far afield as Ipswich, Cornwall and Edinburgh.

Eskdale is one hell of a drive though, although really stunning - may be worth putting out an e-mail to attendees NOT to use Hardknot and Wrynose passes as GPS will most likely send them that way, main roads are good coming from North and South off the M6 the passes are not for the faint hearted, trust me on that one !

Birker Fell from the Ulpha side is good fun too:woot:. That's the way I normally go. Fantastic views from off the top.

Haven't done the passes for a while, well only Kirkstone and that's not as bad. I love those sorts of roads.

But you might be right. Perhaps we should warn them.

Kirkstone is a pussycat, Hardknott and Wrynose are dangerous if you are not expecting that type of road, I know them and will not drive them unless showing Southerners the Lake District ;)

I'll send a warning out to our Rescue e-group members tomorrow. Your right its only fun for the southerners if they are being chauffered.

There was someone at the hotel the other week who's husband had driven her over Birker and she had been terrified, we warned them against going out over the passes, don't think she would have made it!!

Thanks Keltic Ice Man, I think we'll be ok though, spoken to Simon tonight and if the weather is kind I'm hoping he'll get some really nice photos.

You know once upon a time people would have just looked at a map and seen the little chevron signs warning about the steepness etc.

Sometimes I'm glad I don't have GPS!!

For goodness sake, people walk them. No-one should moan about it if they're sitting down. ;)
