Has anyone ever purchased a Student Edition of any Adobe photo processing software.
If so was your course related to photography or not.....also please.
One of the criteria you have to meet is.....
''students enrolled at a higher education institution defined as an accredited public or private university or college (including community, junior, or vocational college) that grants degrees requiring not less than the equivalent of two years of full-time study''
do you read this as you have to be on a 2yr full time degree course or that the college has to just offer this option.

Yes, while on a part time open university course. All you have to do is supply a student registration number from an accredited university and you will be fine.
 
Yep I did a 10 week OU T189 course for which I got a student enrolment letter - that was enough to get student discount on both CS3 and Lightroom - quite a saving as I remember. Just sent a copy of the letter off and that was enough.
 
You can get the discount if you are doing A levels or BTEC and anything above.
 
Alison was yours the OU T189 couse as Giles mentioned and if so how good is it, I'm very interested in this at the moment.
Also please was there any problems getting your Student version transferred to a commercial version when the course finished.....how did you go about getting this changeover.

Im thinking of doing this for lightroom 3, but looking at the website you have to jump through a lot of hoops to get the serial number. I am on a little course via a disability charity, which is run via Coleg Harlech, but I dont have any of the things they request, so Im unsure how to go about it, any ideas?

The savings are unreal if I can do it.

Yes, it does read that you have to satisfy a lot of criteria but there are real savings if they approve your application.
If you dont have a Student card can you not obtain a Student Registration letter which from the above post seems to satisfy the criteria.
My other concern is if you buy the software and they turn down your app. then you are stuck.
General question please -
1. would you consider Amazon as an approved supplier of Adobe?? they have CS5 Extended for £170
2. If you obtain the Student Registration letter do you send it to Abode in the UK.

I bought CS5 and LR3 direct from Adobe and all they wanted was a scan of my NUS card, sent trhough at 5pm and had approval with the serial numbers by 10am the next day.

If in doubt phone their customer services line as I found them to be pretty helpful - ultimately if they say you qualify I don't expect you'd have a problem...though hitting submit on the order did make me twitch a little in case it got rejected.

Edit: And I'm not doing a degree either, so I suspect the college has to be on their approved list rather than your course being the issue.

Thanks Dave, yeah I thought the exact same thing, I was tempted to order it and then go about getting the stuff they need, but then I realised the same, what happens if I get it and they come back telling me to do one, im then knackered, and ive got one of the most expensive door stops ive bought.

I will try and get in touch with the people that help out and see if I am able to get hold of any of the things going for on these offers. Then I will order it, but dont want to get caught out, and lose money I dont have.

Taxilian - thats interesting also, I will see what I can get together and let you guys know what happens. Its an expensive mistake to make though if it goes belly up.

Under the drop down contact support heading there are a load of phone numbers I will probably try the 0207 365 0735 on monday.....(and probably ask the same questions as you... LOL)

Anyone have any better luck at getting a straight answer out of Adobe than me!!
I tried a few Adobe telephone numbers today and went round in circles.
With answers like.....'I guess' and 'you should be OK' it does not give you too much confidence in buying the Student Edition and at the end of the day seeing if you comply with THEIR requirements.

I've just purchased the education version of Lightroom 3 via the Adobe website. Jumping the hoops wasn't too bad, although they could have been a little clearer on the info they needed. I had to scan my ID card, then my payslip, then the *other* side of my payslip (I'm University staff, so still eligible for the discount). Their online support is hit and miss, you either get an instant reply, or you don't get one at all. Their phone support is excellent though, after a weekend of waiting for an email I called up and got the order pushed through straight away :)
 
A great website for student software is Software 4 Students it has various Adobe CS5 programs and packages.
 
I've always ordered my Adobe Student versions from Pugh - they seem happy enough wit ha .ac.uk email address.

Just checked their website and it appears they will post to anyone, but how did you get the Serial No.

Can you upgrade a student version to a full version when the next version is released? or would you need to buy the whole thing from scratch ?
