I was having a chat with my missus earlier about my camera gear and I mentioned that I was thinking about getting rid of my 7D and 5DMKII and replacing them with a 1DMKIV.

To my way of thinking, I don't really need two bodies and the 1DMKIV would make for a good compromise. Anyway, the upshot of the conversation with the missus is that she thinks I'm nuts to give up a full frame and a crop body to replace them with one 'jack-of-all-trades'...

So I'm going to put it to you lot for an opinion... What do you all think? :D
Cheers,
Si

Well it sort of helps if you mention what you are intending to photograph....

Daft as a brush, portraits with the full frame......
Wildlife and sports with the crop.......:nono:

And don't say I only do blarge..............people change genre from time to time, then if you have burnt the bridges..........

I kinda figured that you'd see what I photograph from my Flickr sig! ;)

I don't want to change what I shoot... Just maybe what I shoot it with! :)

That's pretty much what I already do... I think I might be suffering from G.A.S. but in a different form that requires me to get rid of stuff first!

The only thing I'd give up my 7D and 5D2 for is a 1Dx when it gets here, but I can't afford the difference anyway. Maybe if I win the lottery, but then I wouldn't need to get rid of the other 2 anyway. Here's hoping.

Nuts. Nothing I can see on your Flickr* that would be done better on a 1D4, and most of it not so well. Wide angles can be difficult on 1.3x.

If you've got GAS, wait for 1DX.

*Edit: nice BTW :)

Thanks everyone... If nothing else, you've all given me something to chuckle about this morning and my Other Half will be impressed with you all! :)

I think I'll stick with what I've got and carry on saving up for more glass... I still have a few lenses on my 'wish list'! ;)

Yep. A 1Dx is a very nice looking upgrade if you really need it. Glass arguably makes much bigger difference.

It is quite possible to survive with 1DIV, and its excellent 16MP sensor. I am not sure I would prefer it though. The wideangle problem can be sorted out with Tokina glass - either 12-24 or 11-16 which will give you an equivalent of 17 or 18mm at the widest usable setting (or wider if cropped).

That has to be the first time I have heard the 1D Mk IV described as "a compromise".
