Remember it well. Superb series. Loved the theme music by Larry Carlton.

It was a great series, went on too long though as these things do. Taxi was another classic.

Well actually virtually all current American cop shows have been influenced by HSB & owe a lot to its groundbreaking formula. it's not just police dramas, it's influence can be seen in series such as St Elsewhere and ER. One of the best tv programs I have seen

I would put Hill Street Blues and ER in the same class, there are other more 'gritty' programmes that I will not have watched but these two were excellent and filmed in a style that no UK series has so far been able to emulate.
 
I remember the theme tune, but I don't believe I ever watched it. I used to work evenings/ nights and I have a feeling I may have just been setting off for work, just as it started. I did used to tape stuff ( I very well may have taped this) , but I gave up in the end, as they used to tape over my stuff !
