Anyone else not looking forward to 2011?

Every day you wake up is a good day. Because the alternative is pretty p**s poor :)

People call me an optimist - I think of myself of a realist. The world is never as bad as people make it out to be, you just have to look for the good bits and enjoy them! Hope you soon feel much happier in 2011! :o)

Sarah, if you take Nick up on the photo day in Bury let me know and i'll see if I can drag the OH along and join you both if you like. Just pray for a dry day this time.

Someone I know has Leukemia and very little chance of respite so is spending every day living his life to the full... He's 23 or so..

I suspect you maybe in a slightly better position than him somehow! Like others have said, set some goals and objectives for 2011 and stick to them.

And just what do you mean by that

......Regarding my career - wildlife photography is where my heart lies. I got published, all be it a small pic in BBC Wildlife Jan 2011 edition. I graduated in photography also so I have that behind me too.

Shame you're in Suffolk Sarah, the BBC's Natural History Unit are looking for a researcher as we speak - https://jobs.bbc.co.uk/fe/tpl_bbc01.asp?newms=jj&id=36525&newlang=1 (if link doesn't work, see BBC vacancy ref 497010).

For all those moaning about a crap 2010, and that they have nothing to look forward to in 2011, spare a thought for some of our lads coming back from Afghanistan etc, missing a few legs and/or arms, or those that came back in a wooden box.

Given the ages of these lads, what they now have to look forward to, and that they are fighting what a lot of people would consider to be a senseless war, it kind of puts our own problems in to perspective.

The few coppers I have in my pocket may not go as far next year due to increases in VAT/fuel et al, but I still have my health, a roof over my head, and the wherewithall to put food on the table.

So my hat goes off to those making sacrifices and living with the consequences, and I wish everyone a Happy New Year. Make of it what you will.

Sarah, I hope you perk up soon but if not feel free to pm me for moans and support. If you have no real reason to live in Suffolk other than love of the area that Job link would be WELL worth pursuing. Your work is excellent and is a credit to you. Press on and shout your skills, deafen the opposition cos you are better

Jeez, you are still young, you have your health, you have a degree and you have your life in front of you. If your weight depresses you, get some exercise and escape the friends whose conversation is so dull.

Me, well I'm old, I have to work outside in this weather that so gets you down, this summer I'm having to take around a 20% pay-cut, probably unemployable if I lose this job, I still have a big mortgage, my car is falling apart, my house is suffering subsidence etc. etc.

There are so many far far worse off than you (and me) are. I know it doesn't help you, but pause and try to consider what you have!

Gobsmacked! At the Christmas meal held at the pub on the 15th December 2010, my mother lost the ring that was given to her as a 21st birthday present by her parents 55 years ago (you can do the maths)! Extensive searches of the pub and environs yielded nothing, but after all there was snow everywhere. Every time I went to fetch their daily I compulsively checked the path and gutter.......then....lo and behold...today...en route...just glancing around in a vague and hopeful way...on this New Year's Day...the very first thing I spied in the gutter...yes actually on the road...was her ring!! And, miraculously it had not been run over and although it was pretty grubby...all stones were intact and it was in perfect shape. I am totally amazed and my mum is absolutely over the moon (I won't repeat what my dad said)!!

A friend posted the above on a social networking site today. We need to know what we're searching for, and maybe get our hands dirty to achieve it, but then we can obtain the "pearl beyond price"...

Some nice posts in this thread.

I'm going to start out this year by picking up some things I've let go a bit last year. Urbex (and just getting out more in general), my love for the railways, and my photography. All 3 have been neglected since the autumn of 2010.

Who knows; if I'm really lucky I might find myself a man - but I'm not counting on it...

Squizza: all fairly routine stuff by the sound of things.
Weight can be shed.
Interest can be rekindled.
Jobs can be found.
Babies can be concieved.

All in all I'd say there's nothing here that couldn't be solved by a good, hard shag.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

i think this was suggested earlier in the year when Shazza was wondering if she should be basting her breast with the chefs special sauce...(chicken breasts of course)

We are definately hoping for better things to come in 2011, My wife had to have spinal surgery back in March but unfortunately after waiting most of 2010 for further scans and hospital appointments, she now needs major spinal surgery again to have a disc removed and pins put in to stabilise her spine. It will be a very worrying wait until March/April time, but everything is crossed hoping she can get her health back this year.

My take on it is not to dwell on the year that is past or situations that are done, as you can do absolutely nothing to change them. I know that life may feel hard and crap at times, but just keep looking forward as you just never know what is just around the corner.

By being in the dolldrums and worrying about life, the universe and everything, there's a chance that the corners will pass you by and your road will be straight. Take some chances in life, and never forget that the choices you made were made with the best information that you had at that time. It's no good having regrets, or what if's .......... Concentrate on making the best of what you've got, not worrying about what you haven't, it's wasted energy.

The past few days, I've been reflecting alot over the past year and then of course, the past decade. This was my first decade as an adult and I have to be frank, it was nothing like I imagined. Perhaps I was niave. I don't know, but the way my life turned on that metophorical rollercoaster has kind of brought a few things home, including that I'm made of tougher stuff than I thought - but also that, in Dad's words, I need to "learn to say no!".

I sincerely hope that 2011 is a great year for you, Sarah. I think that more of us understand what you mean, than we care to let on though. ;) xx

Taking digital photos costs nothing. Walking in your local area and taking photos costs nothing and helps you lose a few extra pounds :)

Join the local library and binge read?

Having lots of time but little money is frustrating so you have to keep thinking of new ways to fill it.

Can you start your own business of some kind instead?

Yes - am dreading this year, my fiance has to go through chemo and bone marrow transplant for cancer - so it's not going to be the best year we've ever had.

However, also looking forward to the latter part of the year when all the crap should be out of the way, we'll still be together, and we can enjoy ourselves again!
