Anyone else get an overwhelming feeling of boredom all the time...

i often get like this but it was found out to be SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) because im up before its light most of the year and home well after its dark (one of the perils of working in IT support, bought one of the daylight boxes and i have to say i was sceptical but its good, makes me chirpier and im generally more motivated (some of the time)...

ive also been told i have to take more holidays (i went for 3 years without taking days off of work because they were never needed...

Get out walking. Stop and chat to folks where possible. It's a great distraction that helps stops inward thinking.

LOL unless you live where I live and then it's

Don't go for a walk without bodyarmour, baseball bat, can of hairspray ( mace is illegal )

Don't stop and talk to anyone they will nick your trainers and try and stab you.

Stay in with the curtains shut and pretend you had the money to live somewhere else.

I love going to my friends and delivering of all things the Avon, the people on her council estate all speak to you, have a laugh and a joke and dont cause trouble.

I just decided a few years ago to battle on without the tablets and hope one day things got brighter, I'm sure they will too.

This is a pretty good description of me too - I have real trouble getting my brain to turn off and actually relax. I am shattered all of the time, have trouble getting to sleep, don't feel like I get enough sleep but I wake up early every day and my mind goes into overdrive and that's it then - I'm awake... yet still knackered and totally apathetic.

It's not good.

Not just me then...

I'm putting it down to work at the mo, under a lot of pressure, one day off a week and struggling! I guess that's just life although am sure there should be more to it than work, home, eat, sleep, goto 10.

I bought the camera to get me out more which it has done but am now back to find it hard to get out and about...

b****r!
So are all photographers manic depressives or
are all manic depressives Photographers?

And I thought it was just me.
Perhaps I had better Quit TP
as that seems to be the common denominator
:(

im also feeling properly bottomed out at the moment.. im just putting it down to having a soul destroyingly unmotivating job. and moving house. and shooting all day events most weekends. and...

you get the picture. (no pun)

tell you what though its surprising how many people in here have taken some sort of anti-depression medication.

some NHS approved information on depression

Basically there is a lot to be said for he kick up the ass approach, physical activity will increase your endorphins levels and give you more energy thus making you feel better. Eating a healthy diet can also help as some food will give low or high moods.

as for sleep apnoea a good way to test for it is to ask your partner if you snore, an obstructed airway makes noises in the majority of cases.

tbh there are 100s of medical problems that can cause lack of energy so its always worth seeing your GP if it is on going.

Thank goodness - it's not just me then. I'm finding it really difficult to get enthusiatic about almost anything. been like that for a few years off and on. :(

I only wish that was the case with me, I went on the Chester zoo meet a few weeks ago. The day was a real upper for me but it took 2 days to get over the excercise.

None of the tests I've had gives me any idea why I run on an empty tank all the time.

It's one of the things that gets me down most :(

My wife says I snore. I've even noticed it myself, both as I'm nodding off...and waking myself up with it

Lethargic....tick
Get up and go has.....gone
Bored.....tick
too short for my weight.....tick
snore......tick
uninspiring job......tick
media says the world is ending.....

what am I signing up for?
Its frightening the amount of folk who feel the same and just put it down to 'Thats life....get on with it'
If we all go and jump off scarborough bridge do you think a 10-20 on a tripod and remote release will be good enough?

Depends on the length of the remote. No good if you've had to let go of it. Best get a wireless one.

I don't know about photographers, but a high percentage of well known comedians are bipolar (manic depressives).

I am completely apathetic too. That may be something to do with having a job that is so dull that I could happily walk out of the door now and never come back.

Yep I had heard that, Flash
and the classic line of a certain song sums it up rather well

There are some sad things known to man but there ain't too much sadder than
the tears of a clown ;)

Tony Hancock
Spike Milligan
Woody Allen
to name but three.

Circus clowns also seem to be troubled.

Tommy Cooper used to joke about it:-
"'My friend was terribly depressed so I threw him under a steam train. He was chuffed to bits"

agreed.
to quote Neil - 'mind numbingly soul destroying'.

When I'm 21 I think I will start to work towards being a train driver, I've wanted to do that on and off for some time now, and it doesn't involve very much contact with people.

It's quite ironic isn't it - being down ends up getting you down, which ends up making you down about being down... and so it spirals downwards.

Don't recall ever seeing Tony Hancock smile.
Spike Milligan and Woody Allen would smile from time to time.

Have any of you been tested for anemia?

that's lack of Iron isn't it? If so, the tests that I had done not so long ago which covered diabetes cleared me for it.

I actually think a lot of it is psychological.

ive applied for a couple new more interesting, better paid jobs today to try and get out of this rut.

Good call - I am on the verge of doing the same.

Yeah, the lack of iron can bring on the feeling of always being tired etc. If you are always feeling tired it can trigger other feelings in your head, bit of a vicious circle.

I eat a healthy amount of bacon and chicken - I thought they had good amounts of iron. Hmm I might try taking some iron tablets just to see if I get better.

Mine is pyschological and work caused. From my previous life I know I am not anaemic, it would be uncommon in men anyway without a major underlying health condition.
