Anyone else dumped the BBC

If you don’t watch live TV ie disconnect any receiving antenna or equipment, you don’t need a licence, simples:) of course you can’t watch iPlayer either.
Don't use antenna, sat dish or cable TV. Not interested in their so called value for money tv.

.......... Just because your TV can pick some signal up that you don't watch or listen to, you have to pay the BBC!

I'm not sure what your problem is, you pay for a TV licence to receive TV programs live from any source ie ITV Channel 4. Stop receiving a TV signal and you can stop paying the TV licence.

You would have to stop using the internet as well ..........

I'm sure there's a way. Do tell.

Either lie (which some people seem to be prepared to do) or pay the license fee and access iPlayer with a clear conscience.

Don't have a problem.
The BBC are nothing but a rip off, in my opinion.
No one has ever convinced me otherwise.

Compared to Sky Sports, the licence fee is a bargain. We watch a lot of BBC programmes, I regard the licence fee as reasonable value for money.

As for the amount of money they pay their 'celebrity presenters' it's a drop in the ocean when compared to what professional footballers & chief executives get paid. The CEO of Ocado was paid £58.7m in 2019......

As I said before, I pay national insurance and income tax. Quite sure some of that goes to NHS Scotland.

But the point is plenty of people pay toward it and never use it, your point hinged on that.

I don't watch any of that in my own house.
I agree football players are ridiculously over paid, its more a business with a bit of football thrown in these days.
If I wanted to watch sports I would have gone to a pub, obviously can't do that these days though.

I pay for the the NHS and have no problem with that, I use the Nhs. I don't watch BBC or any other live tv, so why pay for it?

It's aunty beeb innit, keeping us all on the rails, socialism lite, watering down external influence. I'm proud of our state television channel, the envy of the world.

Do you think it would be a good idea if the BBC was funded in a similar way to the NHS?

But it isn't so it's a moot point.

Honestly for me, it's pretty simple, I have no problem with whats happened re the bbc licence and over 75s my father in law is 83-84 now and im sure he will bitch about it too, but for me its not an age thing, if you can afford it and want to watch it, pay the money, pretty simple. If you qualify for it for free then fair play.

I dont see the issue.

Yes it is pretty simple.
What if you don't want to watch it?

I thought this had already been covered......

If you don't want to watch broadcast TV, don't buy a TV licence...... & tell the BBC ........

then don't watch it and dont pay the licence, don't think that's rocket science?

Some people seem to be struggling with, don’t watch live TV don’t pay for the licence.

Live TV? Broadcast TV?
Does that mean only from the BBC?
No it doesn't.
So to watch any live TV on any channel, or stream from netflix or amazon I need to pay the BBC.
I think that's what a lot of people object to.
Thats not rocket science either..... :)

I think you will find it's a completely accurate answer because your question is about something that isn't real and seeks to incite a row. I've no wish for one to be honest.
Seeks to incite a row?
Seriously?
I know it isn't real, but it could be. Doesn't mean it can't/shouldn't be discussed.
It was a simple question in response to you bringing the nhs into a tv license discussion.
I'd imagine that if the government brought out an NHS license, and everyone had to pay it directly to the NHS even if they already paid for their own healthcare, I'm sure there would be objections.
Some people see the TV licence as a requirement for watching the BBC, rather than a licence for using a TV to watch live broadcasts/streaming.
If the BBC was funded differently, as in via taxation etc, maybe people who object to buying a tv license would feel differently about paying ? I don't know.
I pay my tv licence, I can afford it, I don’t actually object to paying it because I do sometimes watch the BBC.
I don’t see why over 75's that can afford to pay should get it for free either.
However, in this day and age of subscription tv, is it right that the BBC should get paid by me so I can watch Netflix or amazon or Sky?
Don’t the subscription services have to pay the BBC/government to operate/transmit in the UK?

Do you consider iplayer as live TV
I wonder what the original comment was, that you cowardly removed. If you hadn’t been trying to be such a smartarse with your 2nd comment I would have been none the wiser, but you just can’t help yourself, can you. Sorry I have my posts mixed up.

I have a TV licence for your info not that it’s any of your business. Content on iPlayer is produced with funds from the licence fee it seems only fair that those without a licence shouldn’t be able to watch. Don’t you?

Oops, nearly got banned again then, probably worth it though
I think it would have been worth it, to not have to read your incessant drivel. Apologies, my mistake I thought the comment was aimed at me. I should engage brain before typing in future.

If you used your brain before typing you would see the bit i removed was "catch up" because it wasn't from the BBC (see post 69)
Might be many things, cowardly isn't one of them and never say anything I wouldn't say to someones face

Couldn't give a toss whether you have a licence or not, in fact couldn't give a s*** about anything to do with you
How about stick me on ignore or just get your facts right next time before getting so stroppy

So, ok, the issue seems to be the pay the BBC for a licence even if you don't use their actual channels / Iplayer?
I can see how that may be an issue I guess in a sense but I guess that it comes down to one salient fact, if you want to watch any of the above, it's the law to need a tv licence. People can argue about it until they are blue in the face but it would be little different to arguing any other law I suppose.

I am supposing that the BBC thing is that the fee goes toward their programming etc and I guess they were first to the party at the invention of tv and broadcasting programmes, perhaps thats how it evolved.

But again, the law is the law. Follow it or break it, moan about it but its not likely to change.

Its not a simple question and I didn't introduce the NHS comparison, however its a valid one on the point about paying for something you don't use.

I'd imagine that if the government brought out an NHS license, and everyone had to pay it directly to the NHS even if they already paid for their own healthcare, I'm sure there would be objections.
As for objections, people object in all walks of life about all sorts of things, but unless you can do something about it thats all it'll ever be. I mean you say an NHS licence? There already is one in the form of the Immigration Healthcare Surcharge which is currently £400 per year for those non EU nationals here in the UK. That includes the many many BAME healthcare workers already also working in the NHS and already paying their way in taxes, NI, etc etc.

Some people see the TV licence as a requirement for watching the BBC, rather than a licence for using a TV to watch live broadcasts/streaming.
If the BBC was funded differently, as in via taxation etc, maybe people who object to buying a tv license would feel differently about paying ? I don't know.

But then why would only the BBC be funded via taxation, surely they all should and you are back to square one. "I don't watch amazon/netflix etc so why should I pay towards them"
Also, funding the BBC through taxation draws it one step closer to it being a literally state run organisation and that would not be a good thing Im pretty sure for anyone.

I pay my tv licence, I can afford it, I don’t actually object to paying it because I do sometimes watch the BBC.

Don’t the subscription services have to pay the BBC/government to operate/transmit in the UK?

Im assuming the subscription ones do, think they are all regulated by OFCOM after all? But again re:BBC getting the licence fee, I think it's a historical thing to a degree and I don't really see the issue if it's the law to own a licence, those are the term so it's pay or don't pay, up to you. Making it an anti / pro BBC thing is irrelevant, they seem to benefit most but it doesn't bother me.

It’s a government propaganda machine pure and simple ,saw it coming years ago , stop smoking in pubs and clubs they will gradually become uneconomic and close down ,less places for meetings and dissent . As with this pandemic we now sit at home and watch and possibly believe what they are telling us .. big brother has come home to roost ... notiice in other countries how they complied with lockdown easier than we did ... as obedience was drummed into them post war ... lockdown here was introduced reluctantly as they feared we would rebel against it .. HM gov. Need the B.B .C whether or not you like it .
