Yes
I'm going to be going there this September. I got in at Glasgow Met as well but I prefer Edinburgh as a place (and I always get lost in Glasgow) also I heard the course at Stevenson is very good.

I wondered if anyone else here is already studying there or is going to be as of this September. I don't really know anyone in Edinburgh, so if anyone is going it'd be nice to get to know you...if you want that is:lol:

I've been accepted to Stevenson for the Degree Foundation in Photography, i'm nowhere near good enough to be going in at HND level. I'm sure you'll love it! I went to the open event at Glasgow, it was so busy.

Looking forward to September

I've not heard of the Degree Foundation, would that be like the NQ I kept hearing about?

I honestly didn't think I'd get onto HND. The Glasgow portfolio day was odd. Not a lot of time to actually discuss your work with anyone.

Are you on Flickr/Myspace etc?

It seems similar to the NQ. You can then go on to Uni or HND. I plan to go on and do the HND afterwards.

Portfolio day? Was it a group discussion? I just went along to the open evening and couldn't get near a tutor. In the end I applied and got a letter back to say the course was full. I'd heard at the open event that there were already 300 applications for 60 places.

I really didn't think i'd get into Stevenson, my interview seemed to be only 10 minutes but I guess if they are interviewing for the 3 levels of course then they have to be quick.

I'll pm you my Flickr link.

Hey Stellar,

I am doing my HND right now at the Met, it is a great place but I know what you mean about the portfolio day :D

I worked with a few people that go to Stevenson and its course is very similar to ours and they enjoy it

Good luck for September!

are you going into the first or second year of the HND?

I'm moving from WL College (HNC) to the 2nd year HND at Stevenson :)

I'm going into the 1st year. Maybe I'll see you there. :)

Edit - I've just had a look at your blog. You have some amazing images!

They sure do. I briefly got shown around on my interview day, they seem to have everything there, I'm really excited about starting! My biggest nerves at the moment is finding somewhere to live. I'm told Student Services can help with relocation though.

as i'm fairly local i don't have that worry :( but try student services and if you're struggling pm me and i'll see if there's anything i can do from up here.

Thank you. :)

A few people I know on other forums have told me the good areas and the areas to avoid so I've got a starting point. I'm phoning Student Services tomorrow so fingers crossed they'll be helpful.

certainly a few places to avoid :)

as i'm moving from HNC at one college to HND (stevenson do it as a 2 year HND) at another i actually need to sit some of the year one classes as i have done some of the year 2 ones already and need to do them so will probably see you

you're going to teach folks to colour in? ;) lol

sorry couldn't help it ... you know the whole art v photography thing :)

While i'm on, can anyone fill me in on the studios and equipment available? I've now been offered another college course so trying to decide which one to go with.

I think I know though...

I didn't go to Stevenson but I have a friend who works there and I believe the kit and setup is pretty good.

3 big double studios, one is a drive in, all elinchrom lighting kit with 4700 jule power packs, they have a couple of MF Leaf Digital backs that can be used also. HUGE darkrooms and lots of room for 35mm MF and LF

anything else specifically just shout

Just curious how you were funding it?

I'm expecting to fully pay for it myself. I have a finance meeting with one of the colleges on Monday but it's unlikely i'll qualify for fee waiver as it's all based on joint income and i'm married.

Drive in studio???

Do tell....

I'm a mature student but my wife is too so we get fees paid for by SAAS and Student loans ...

Drive in studio ... yeah there is a garage door style access to the studio, when i went for my interview at Stevenson they were talking about ther having been an Aston Martin in the week before.

It's a white infinity cove background around 20 foot wide and would easily accomodate a decent sized car

Hello, I've been finding out about the courses at Stevenson... how are you getting on now? What did you think?

I'm not attending Stevenson til after the summer so couldn't tell you :) finish my HNC at West Lothian College very soon - wish i could do my HND there too but unfortuanately i can't :(

You get sorted then???

Not yet :(

I'm going up at the start of June so hope to really get moving with things then.

Julie - The facilities seem amazing, and I've only heard good things about the course. When I went for an interview at a college in Ayrshire the tutor spent the whole time how amazing Stevenson was and how wonderful their facilities were and that I should be going there . The 2 tutors who interviewed me (at Stevenson) seemed really nice, approachable people as well which is good.

Hello. I took the HND at Stevenson College before I moved to England five years ago. I thought it was very good. If you're keen to learn, the tutors will go out of their way to help you and they are very approachable. Going there as a mature student gave me the confidence to do what I wanted with my photography! ( Didn't have any Digital backs when I was there...would have loved to get my hands on one!)

should have gone to glasgow, a much nicer place than edinburgh.

not sure, i know WL College do "in fill" basically you can got as and when you have the time and probably take 2 years to do the HNC bit at a time.

Stevenson might do the HNC evening class but other than that not that i am aware of

Someone said to me the other day. "Only Glaswiegans think it's the best city...no one else"

Glasgow is better for gigs, but other than that I can't find anything it has that is better than Edinburgh.

Plus I get lost with the whole grid system thing.

Edinburgh FTW:thumbs:

Went really well. I can't wait to really get stuck into the work. Surprisingly the unit that's got me most excited so far is the Location Stock Photography unit.

The first week has been mostly letting us know what we're going to be doing but it's been fun.

The tutors seem to be really good, and really passionate about the course.

I made the mistake of using the canteen on my first day. Chaotic, never again!

Right now I'm looking forward to getting back into the darkroom, it's been 2 years.

Hopefully I'll see you around sometime.

glad to see it went well, our first week has been chaotic with 48 hour turn rounds of assignments to be printed on a3 when we can't even log onto the machines yet lol but definately getting there.

The lecturers seem pretty cool.

we're in wed morning, all day thur all day fri so if you're about at any of those times let me know and i'll make sure to say hi

I'm in all day Wed (we do Mon - Wed) I thought I was in 187 at 9:30am, but the wiki says Studio 22 at 9am so if you see a small ginger haired, bespectacled girl dashing about looking confused say hi.
