Anyone done the Practical Photography Free DSLR Course?

I joined up after seeing your post lol may as well since its free and if it helps improve at all then its all good.

Thanks for posting, looks good!

10 quid to cover the subscription of the mags over the duration seems a good deal too.

Yeah I would of got the mags anyway so it will save me some cash.

I did it last year, its ok, they set monthly projects that you submit a photo, you the enter a final image, and if you very lucky you may reach the final, last years price was a trip to do landscape and to be honest i didnt stand a chance. the images that were selected were good, not done by someone doing this for a year or two.

You do get a printed cert after you do a multi choice quiz at end, and if you dont get the pass mark you take it again until you do.

Never got feedback on my images from the people at the site, just comment from everyone else that had signed up, so no professional feedback which you would like to get to know if you are doing it right or not.

But apart from that, it made me try, much like our 52 week here.

Right back to the beer and football

Looks good to me! Think i will sign up! Does anyone know if anything happens if you stop doing it/ uploading stuff once your signed up during the free course, as i might be having to travel away, i can't see anything about it, and just guessing nothing happens.haha

I saw it last year, but IMHO, it's a bit of a waste of time. You will learn more by posting your images here and seeking C&C. Nothing they teach you can't be found from a good, basic photography book, so buy yourself a decent book or take a few out from the local library.

Found this bit, but when you follow the link, the offer can't be found on the great magazines website.

Main advantage is it gives a structure to your learning...

Signed up last year but went to India and didn't do it. Going to give it another try this time around - signed up when they sent me a reminder.

I couldn't find the subscription offer on the website either so in the end I just rang up and did it over the phone quoting the reference in Billybobs post, it was quick and easy - only took about 5 minutes.

I can understand that it probably isn't much different to posting images on here for C & C but I have to say agree with Will69 that the fact it is a little bit more structured should actually help me as it gives you tasks to do and you set up a personal project. One of my problems is without structure I don't force myself to pick up the camera and other stuff gets in the way this is something I really need to work on. I suppose there would be no reason I couldn't also post my images on here for C & C that I take as a result of the course?

I thought it's free, the subscription offer is pretty good so I might as well give it a go. If it doesn't work out I've not paid anything and I still get 6 magazines to read :)

Signed up. Seems like quite a few other have too. Might be worth keeping this thread going for the duration of the course to share how we are all doing. Maybe even a meet for one of the modules.

I am going to have a go at this. Gives you a project to aim for each month :-)

Thats a pretty good idea :)

Not sure if we might be better off setting up a seperate thread in one of the critique sections though as this section of the forum is supposed to be for general chat (Maybe personal projects?)

I like the idea of a meet for a module too!

Or perhaps running a thread for each module in the Competitions, Challenges and Inspiration section would work. Not sure if that needs moderator approval?

A few of the modules - urban landscape, nature, wildlife and rural landscape - could be ideal for a meet. I guess, as ever, depends on where is convenient for most people.

Yep, signed up as well, can't go wrong for free, can you? Well can you?

I'll PM one of the mods and find out if having a thread for each module would be ok and where it should be set up. I think quite a few of the modules could work meet wise too.

Another good thing about having a section where we are all posting our progress etc on here is that it will give me that little extra kick to put the effort in, along with the structure of the course itself :)

I'd already signed up but would be great to have a thread on here to keep in touch with others doing it! :)

signed up last year and managed not to do anything, have signed up again and hope to actually do it this year!

Signed up as well, could be quite good and like it being structered, thanks for the heads up!

:)

Looks like there could be quite a lot of us doing this then.

I've PM'd the mods and asked if its ok to set up a thread (or threads) somewhere for everyone to chat about the course, share pictures and critique each others work and if so which section so it be created in. Am just waiting to hear back :)

Anyone else fancy joining us all? The more the merrier!

Thanks for posting this up, as only have picked up a DSLR a few months ago and being a complete beginner I am hoping this will help me develop.
Would be good to see some other peoples experiences also!

signed up also . Im a beginner too so should give me some ooomph to get out there .

I'll give it a go, it's a nice add on to my 365 :)

Seems there could be quite a few of us having a bash at it :D

Signed up and rung for the £10 offer!

Will be nice to have some direction towards a different theme outside of my norm.

Thanks for sharing.

I'm going to sign up.
Fair play to PP, seems a genius way to raise revenue ;)

Have any of you had an e-mail acknowledgement of signing up? I've not seen anything yet almost anything you sign up for on the internet usually sends something by return.
