Anyone done golf photography before??

Just a quick heads up before a charity golf day that I'm shooting for a friend of mine next week. He's asked me to take a picture of everyone teeing off and I'm wondering what shutter speed to use. Using my D300s with a Siggy 70-200 2.8

I seem to remember a similar thread a few months back, I think the over riding advice then was whatever you do take a shot as they are 'swinging' - will go search and see if I can find it.
 
I did a similar thing a couple of weeks ago with everyone driving off.
I shot at 1/500 and the results were spot on
 
The only thing I have seen done at a charity golf day was a side on series of shots showing about 4 shots through the course of a swing, which looked really cool, and actually helped people to critic their swing, so sold a lot.
 
1/500th to 1/30th depends what your going for...

I shot a burst of about 8 @ 200mm on a tripod, layered them together ad came out nicely with 5 or 6 angles of club in 1 shot.

1/500th should show some club motion in a good swing but no body motion

don't fire before impact if your closer than about 150mm or it's very very quiet....some more pedantic players get arsey about it
 
Here is one I did last month for a Captain's Drive In...........






Not sure I have the settings correct for the border exif script.........they look a bit too sharp.

I was stood about 15 yards away and they could not hear my shutter going off.
 
Or try something other than the drive offs..........:schtum:
