Anyone bought from here before?

Almost certainly shady. They say they have a store in London, but the only address I can find for anything is in Hampshire? The picture is probably a generic one from Google Images, I'm sure a search for "canon shop" will probably throw up the same image.

I'm on my phone so can't check, but a WHOIS lookup will probably confirm it was only set up recently and from someone not in the UK.

Also, if it's too good to be true...

Hey up, you're seemingly correct. My dodge senses were tingling but thought I'd check with you guys first. Domain registered in April 2012 and there is no company number. A generic search of companies house gives no information and you were bang on about the photo. Dodge all the way to their bank!

Hmmm.... A website that claims to have a London store, but no address, map, directions on where it is.... I did a Whois - the results copied below. The shop claims to have been in business since 1996, yet has only had a website from April 2012..... It's a uk business, apparently, but has a website registered in Utah?

It's a crock, avoid.

But it would be funny to send a "I would like to come to your shop to have a browse - I am not yet sure if I want to buy *this very expensive lens* or *this other very expensive lens*. Can you give me the address of your shop? It doesn't appear on your website...." email ;-)

There are rarely any bargains to be had when it comes to this sort of product... if you want to save money, buy from a reputable grey import company (their names are mentioned frequently on TP) or just buy from a proper UK source. Enjoy your camera!

sound advice

Haha thanks everyone. Also apologies as I did do a search (without spaces as the name is presented) and it didnt bring up the other thread about this shop I've just noticed on the front page :(

Email request for the shop details done :)

i looked into these a while back (maybe 6 months or so) and they had a section of a huge department store in oxford street..... i was after some remote triggers and the website said they had them in stock where cameraworld round the corner didnt... when i rang up they said there stock level was low and they didnt have any so i never went there in the end- i dont believe its as good as they make out it is.....

I've just rang the number prior to reading this post and spoke with some guy who sounded dodgy, I then said I wanted to pay by credit card to give me protection and his reply was they only accepted bank transfers for orders over £200, due to security issues! I asked him if the company was registered with companies house and he fobbed me off that he would send me an email with the companies full details! Definitely going to avoid thus one i think!!!

I have had the same conversation today, except the guy wouldn't take orders over £1,000 with a credit card. However he took card details over the phone and I received the following email from them today:

Thank you for your email,

I can confirm all our Canon products are UK stock, brand new, unused and sealed units.
All cameras come with a 12 month standard warranty excluding the Canon EOS 1D x which is 2 years.

I have checked the item and the Canon 1DX is on sale for £4299.00 as of today, but the price may change at any point as it is on an exclusive offer.

We are able to deliver to your desired location and carriage is free due to the amount of the order. If payment is recieved by 4pm we will dispatch your goods today and be with you by 12 noon Saturday.

Kind Regards Tim,
Customer Support

I will let you know if the credit card payment is taken, and if the camera does arrive as promised.

It sounds like if the domain is registered in the US, then the Canon kit (if indeed they do have any) may have originally come from the US, although their email to me above specifically states not, and the duty/taxes to which they refer are supposed to cover the eventuality of someone in another country ordering from them in the UK and having to pay their country's taxes.

It sounds dubious, and I guess we'll know in a few days. I did purchase a camera from www.camerabox.co.uk with no problems at all, but they subsequently went under as you have possibly read on these forums and in the Daily Telegraph.

Hate being a guinea pig!

If what you say is true and you receive a genuine UK stock camera in a sealed box you will have been one helluva brave guinea pig !!!.......if not..............

£4299 to be a guinea pig? I hope this one pays off for you!

Why would they need a (stolen) image of a physical shop when it clearly states exclusive online retailer?

Strange, this store is advertised on TP. So i would think they would be ok????

I assume you are referring to Google ads, as far as I am aware the forum has no control over which companies are advertised so it is not a guarantee that the company is one to buy from

I am probably being dim but I can't see any reference to a physical store on that website, only an 'online store open 6 days a week'

As to adverts, if you mean the ads at the top centre of page below the menu bar, they are nothing to do with us, they are google ads and as such are not in any way linked to the forum, they just generate by page relevance straight from google.

Well I heard nothing from them, and no credit card amount was taken, so I assume they were up for a short time, tried to get people to pay by bank transfer, then trousered the cash and have disappeared. These are the sorts of people I would like to see dealt with rather harshly! Hanging by the testicles for a week would be a start

I heard nothing from them at all, they didn't take my money and the web site has now disappeared. Lucky escape, hope no-one paid them by bank transfer as they asked!

Just thought I'd post my indirect win because of this company.......been after a 60d for quite some time and had been looking at 2nd hand kit until the likes of Panamoz had them brand new for around £550. Concious of the lack of UK warranty I tried endless to get John Lewis to price match them and others but to no avail because of the lack of a physical high street shop in the UK.The morning I'd created this thread I'd already sent a price match request off to John Lewis expecting it to be declined like all the rest had been, but holding out hope nonetheless. Anyway, while we were all busy looking them up and doing "whois" on their domain John Lewis came back after looking at the website of their "shop" in London and said ok......we'll match that! It was all done via rebate etc. but ultimately after around 2 weeks I'd got my refund of the difference. So all in all I'm the proud owner of a brand new UK spec UK warranty Canon 60d for the handsome sum of £499.

Part of me feels guilty about it but then I don't make the rules..........just played the game :)

Congratulations on your 60D which I hope will give you much enjoyment.

I'd love to try out your approach with a 1Dx but fear it's likely to be no-no.

Well done making use of the "Never Knowingly Undersold"! John Lewis customer service is second to none.

Enjoy your camera!

Maybe they'll match the offer by coming and taking the camera away! ;)
