Anyone bought from digitalrev?

I have, they give you the option to pay the duty/vat up front, so that's what I did. Probably not the answer you were looking for though.....:naughty:

If you via their own website then tax/import charge is include (you will see on checkout for the uk) - not so sure with their ebay site thou...

How does Onestop digital compare? They were the cheapest a while ago.

I have bought from them. Bought D200, D40x + 18-55, SB600, SB800, AFS 105, AFS 18-200 and AF50 f1.8 from them Aug 2007 no problems whatsoever! Bought again since with no problems too. Recently there is usually no point due to the difference in exchange rate.

Spent a lot of money with both DigitalRev and OneStop, no problems with either. My philosophy regarding import duty is 'if the price you pay plus any possible duty plus any possible return fees is still low enough to make it a good deal then go for it, otherwise buy in the UK'.

I bought a Nikon D200 from them via Ebay a few years ago, and the deal was that they would pay any Import Tax, should it be charged. I got the camera, after a bit of miscommunication about courier and delivery time, but a week or two later had a bill for the Import Tax, which I paid. They reimbursed me quite quickly though.

I'd say if the offer included them paying any Import Tax then that is what they will do, otherwise you may get stung, and depending on how much you are spending, that good deal could turn out not to be so good. ;)

As for buying imports generally, I think I made a mistake buying the camera, as although it was a very good deal, I later found out that if the camera were to go wrong, Nikon wouldn't have touched it. That was just poor research on my part though, and nothing to do with DigitalRev.

Agreed. I wouldn't recommend buying a body or lenses from HK/Chinese eBay sellers. If anything goes wrong you're kind of screwed, or you could get a bad version of a lens, rare but it happens. Flashes, filters, batteries, PW's, etc, go for it. I think I've bought 6 things from HK/China/US (DigitalRev sometimes) and got stung on tax twice so that's the risk you take. It's about 15% I think so figure out if the extra "no tax guarantee" is worth it, if available.

Bodies: buy them new from Calumet or similar. http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk is your best friend.

Lenses: Buy used on TP or eBay if you can wait for what you want at a good price.

I bought a lens from them along with a 3yr extended warranty. Just as well I did because 12 months down the line the focus motor/gears got messed up and it had to go to be repaired. The warranty itself was with Mack Camera, an American company. The lens got quoted by a registered UK Nikon repair guy and that turned out to be too much so had to ship it out to America (at their expense) and got it back around 3 months later (if I remember correctly) fixed and still working great now. Can't fault DigitalRev and Mack Camera were fine too, if a little slow. DigitalRev also reimbursed the import duty as their ebay listing had promised.
