Mate of mine has bought 2 dell 24 inch monitors with 36 month onsite from an internet outlet NOT DELL he has a issue with one of them and has contacted dell and they will not entertain the 3 year warranty as the monitor was not bought direct....anyone had this:thinking:

I am just about to buy a pair of Dells to add to a new pc build for phot editing and this has got me thinking about other makes of ips panels.....few about though in the 24 inch

This is fairly sandard and I thought it was common Knowledge.

Why should Dell honour the warranty on a product that they didn't give a warranty on? I think your mate should be taking the issue up with the internet outlet.

Earlier this year I had a monitor fail and Dell replaced it three days after it was out of the three year warranty, so I can't complain about them.

Yep sellers responsibility to deal with warranty issues.

I bought a pair of ASUS monitors from the same site 4 years ago now - I had a three year on site with ASUS they did not moan and bitch when I had an issue within the 3 years - the monitors are covered for 3 years onsite whoever you buy them from:thinking:

Not all manufacturers are the same - then

Thanks:thumbs:

If you look on many websites that sell DELL monitors they quote the 3 year on site warranty - Just like

AOC
ASUS
BenQ
O the list is endless......most Manufacturers sell their goods through retailers and give a three year on site they deal with not the retailer:shrug:

Ive had AOC crt monitors fail in the past....rang AOC they came out based on S/N I bought them with a 3 year on site

IF you but an IPAD from AMAZON its under warranty with apple = apple do the repair and you deal with apple

as said, quite a few manufacturers will give you support but you have to go back to retailer initially for warranty issues or to raise RMA in some cases.

depends on the small print in the warranty.

It depends who backs the warranty. If its stated as a manufacturers warranty they should stand behind it. If its a third party warranty they have no obligation to do so, it's up to the third party provider. Your friend needs to check the warranty policy.

This^
Warranty cases often end up with the manufacturer but your friends agreement is with the supplier, who should be the first port of call.

It could be that Dell recognise it's a grey import and they're not covering it in the UK, in which case the reseller is responsible for replacement and may have to take the loss if they're promising a warranty that's not technically manufacturer backed.

I bought a Dell warranty from Amazon and had a heck of a job getting Dell to accept the 3 year warranty issue. Haven't needed the warranty yet BTW.

The outcome of weeks of going back and forth to Dell is that they would cover it, but they need these details, which you will have to get from the company who sold it to you:

Dell Certified Partner Name (ie who Amazon bought it from)
The Order Number (Partner/Dell)
Partner's Account Number

Regarding Amazon / Apple, this is an arrangement between them. If you had a dispute it would be with Amazon. Retailers often try and palm off issues by telling you to contact the manufacturer but the purchase forms a contract so the retailer is always responsible.

YES agree under the SALE OF GOODS ACT 19xx plus revisions - But they only crumble when you put in writing and have the CEO's name on the I will be taking you to court threat...

id never buy from dell again, I had the customer service experience from hell, they made me lots of promises and continuously failed to deliver

No problem with dell service, even had them repair stuff that was out of warranty last week a vostro laptop with a dead screen that is stored in a laptop safe daily all battered on the corners and a few of the screw holes were broken they came out replaced the screen and cooling fan and the peices of plastic that no manufacturer will normally cover. Just never buy the basic warranty its crap even a hard drive is classed as a user replaceable part.

After the hassle my mate has had I am no not happy putting my money into a pair of Dell Monitors.......so who to trust?

I don't know who the OP's mate bought them from but I got my last two from pcbuyit. 3 years on-site warranty and pixel perfect guarantee.

I had call to use the pixel perfect guarantee with the 2001FP, IT took a couple of goes to get a perfect one but no arguments. Also, my 2408 developed a fault near the end of its 3 year warranty period and pcbuyit swapped it out next working day with a brand new 2410 (even though I was advised I would get a refurb).

All my dealings were through the retailer though. Not through DELL.
