I am going on Saturday and wondering what, if anything, I can take.

Hi Michael - I can't answer your question but I did notice I could see the new arch thingy from Guildford (the golf course)the other day :eek: - quite impressive that must be 20-30 miles away :thinking:

I saw Muse there, security were doing bag checks of everyone but I didn't take any gear with me. There were plenty of people with P&S cameras inside but I didn't see anyone with a DSLR and I suspect the standard "that's a pro camera, it's not coming in" line would have been used.
 
I have been a couple of times and seen people there with DSLR's including at the FA Cup Final.

Might still be worth checking their policy though as went very early on and (new) security staff / stewards had enough to contend with it being the first big game.
 
I think the rules about photography for a match are probably a little more relaxed than a gig, might be worth checking the ticket small print and/or a phone call tho...
 
Took the kids this year to see Bristol Rovers.

I took a large backpack with roll, crisps & drinks (not cans) for the kids & me, and I also took a DVD cam & my Canon 350D.

I did get searched but everything was allowed in.:thumbs:

I went to see Metallica a month or so ago @ Wembley. Took my D40 in a bag. It was checked and was let in ok.
 
Well I will take the camera and see what happens as it sounds like I should be fine, but what long lens do I take?

The choice is either the Sigma 70-300 APO which I do not think will be a problem as most DSLR users will probably have something similar, but it would only be used at the soft long end.

Or do I try to smuggle in the Canon 70-200/2.8 (non-IS) to use with a 1.4x t-con and hope no one there cares that it is white. I have used this at the Millennium stadium with no problems but am less optimistic about Wembley.

Though I most looking forward to seeing how a full stadium will look through the Sigma 10-20.

After all the effort of hiding the 70-200 in my bag the cheeky buggers never checked it! When in my seat no one stopped me using it either.

Will be back there again in October for the NFL game so security will probably be a lot tighter making sure they check everyone going in.

Although the bigger problem will be that I am taking my dad and he will have his Nikon with him. The shame!

So what's the stadium like? It looks very impressive on telly, but there's nothing like being their. What was your impression?
 
Seeing this thread reminded me of an incident that happened to me many many years ago.

Anyone remember Paul Young...? well, sadly, when I was younger I went to see him in concert (can't remember where, but indoor somewhere so probably the Birmingham NEC) with a girlfriend of the time. I took my Olympus OM10, with 50mm lens as I wanted a few shots of the audience and lights. 50mm is nowhere near enough to get a decent close up anyway.

As I was entering, I was stopped and searched, as was everyone, but the ugly, spotted brute who told me I couldn't take my camera into the arena proceeded to open it up, take out the roll of film inside and slung it into a bin...!!! I was mortified as the guy had no idea what might have been on that.

I complained vehemently, but nobody who was there in any official capacity gave a rats arse at all. I even went to the NEC management and they didn't give a hoot either.

My girlfriend at the time was disgusted so we went outside and sold our tickets to some people who wanted them - for a little profit, just enough to cover the meal we had in a lovely restaurant somewhere in Brummy.

I heard he was a pile of ***** anyway...:) still... what a thug that 'security guard' was eh?
