Yes
Heading there on Sat just for the day to watch Koln v Monchengladbach with my son (aged 7). We should be in the centre around late morning and don't leave till around 830. Obviously the game will be the focus point but any recommendations on anything else to see, any hints and tips, (thinking the Chocolate museum, or wander round old town) and good places to eat? Food wise, looking for typical German food.

Been a long long time since I have been there so not able to offer much help

Food wise though, keep an eye out for a Schnellimbiss, some have seating areas whilst others dont, they sell typical German "fast food" like bratwurst, pomfrit, frikadeller, schnitzel etc.

Hi I usualy visit when I'm over visiting my folks.
You could download the koln app I find it useful.
If you or your son likes Star Wars there's an exibition at the odysseum on Corintostraße.
There's the cathedral the old town or along the river.
Try one or more of the typical brewhouses for Kölsch I like the Gilden im Zims on the Heumarkt you can also get a tram to the ground from here they leave every 15 min and take about 20 mins(the menu's come in english) or the the Gaffel am Dom opposite the cathedral.
Enjoy its a great city.

My uncle went there about 70 years ago ,said it was a dark night and they kept shining lights at him .':exit::exit:

Cheers. Star Wars and the cable car sound good options.

Been a few years since I visited, but it looks like the chocolate meuseum is still there....might appeal to a 7 year old. Head towards the river from the cathedral and its on the right hand side, we took our kids there to watch the chocolate being made and to get a dipped wafer from the chocolate fountain.....mind, dont expect to see Willie Wonka or any umpalumpas!

I think that will be the plan, head to choc factory then cathedral the to the game and wander round old town after.

How long did you find the choc museum took to wander round?

Now you know why they are called "bendy busses".

The 23-year-old bus driver immediately evacuated the children from the bus and then saved herself.
“The driver had tried to get in contact with [rail operator] Deutsche Bahn. A minute later the train crashed into the bus,” the police spokesperson said.
The train driver tried to engage the emergency brake but it was too late. The locomotive smashed into the front of the bendy bus, crumpling the driver's end of the vehicle.
