No
I was wondering if anyone here had taken the Adobe certified expert exam in Photoshop, or any of the Adobe products?
Was it a help career wise, is it recogised by employers?
The exam is £700, not a problem if I feel it is a valid investment.

Is that the exam or the course and exam.

They like getting their moneys worth dont they......what with the cost of CS5 Extended and other software + £700 for an exam...geeez!!

So pay £700 to be told you are good at photoshop by the manufacturer. They sound quite like Apple to me, more alike than they thought:)

I was certified once but it had nothing to do with Adobe....

:D

I can send you a pair of fairly clean white underpants if required.*

* Cappuccino chocolate topping is an added extra! ;)

Errrrrr no I'll give that a miss I think...... I'll just have it black.;)

I had not heard of this - how many modules are you thinking of doing as single ones appear to be much cheaper (in Euro and US dollar anyway). I looked at some sample questions and it looks as if you need to answer questions rather than show you can actually edit a picture.

That's correct, it mainly a questions and answers exam. There are three levels from what I can see, Associate, Expert and Master, with the Master qualification acheived when passing all the CS expert exams.

CS4 PS exam program here.

How many job adverts have you seen that ask for it? If they are all requiring it then I don't think it takes alot of thinking about regardless of what the actual qualification and course gives you in respect of extra knowledge.

If, on the other hand only a few or none ask for it then I would seriously question if it was worth it.

Also, is it recognised by employers? So many times you see various courses and qualifications, then speak to employers and they haven't ever heard of it.

£700 for a written exam? Surely by the nature of photoshop, an exam/course should encompass some sort of practical aspect.

For £700 you can get alot more than having your ego massaged:naughty:

Sounds like Adobe are take full advantage of the naive and egocentrics out there.

I do my own exams for £50 a pop btw, if anyones interested just PM your full bank details, and i will clear the monies from your bank account.:rules:

Its not about ego, its about doing well in the industry you work in. Are all the IT professionals that spent thousands on their MSCE's egotists also? What about degree level entry careers, are they egotists aswell?

I looked at this exam a while back (CS3 days) and considered doing it on my own back for work although not required. Think it cost £185 and the test took place in Glasgow.

Backed out because I wanted to buy something for the car and as far as I read they had to be renewed each version of Ps.

There is a prep exam on Kelby Training for the Ps course, might be worth a look although it is a CS3/4 orientated.

Calm down mate, christ. i was only making a joke. I know b****r all about IT degrees or whatever. I was talking about Adobe's pricey paper exams, not about whether education is a good thing.

Sorry, but this one i've just gotta laugh

Life never ceases to amaze.

Yes I am afraid they mostly are, firms have cottoned on now that mscse's are basically multiple choice exams that can be passed easily by anyone with a good memory that may have little to no actual knowledge or understanding of the subject, hence them being rarely stated as mandatory requirement for interview as used to be the case.
Any examinations that allow you to rinse and repeat until passed as long as a fee is paid are unlikely to be of long term validity within a field of work.

Spot on. The only ones that really insist on it now are Microsoft Gold Partners or those sweating their bits off to get Sarbox compliance.

Quite, they are required for partner discounts, but many people who pass them are still useless.
I have interviewed many people who claimed to be CCNA/CCE who didn't even know how to deal with basic items. (they were not requirements that I put down, but the basics were relevant to the job).

I would not have thought that the qualification here from Adobe would mean a lot without a portfolio to back it up, unless there is some discount which can be gained from having several qualifications in a company

I wonder if buying the £700 exam from Adobe then makes you a 'student' in their eyes, hence able to buy cs5 cheaper? lol ;)
