Long story short.

I signed up to the year long 'Seasons' thread.

I decided to do it with an old Minolta SRT101 (as I don't really sue it and it came free with a lens I bought) but I'm unsure about the meter.

I've only run one roll of film through it and actually thought it was OK (apart from some light leaks), but subsequent times picking it up and trying to gauge if the meter is actually working or not made me question it as the pointers didn't seem to move much.

So I thought it might be good to use an external meter. Tried using the LightMe app and it gave quite different readings to what I was seeing in the camera.

Now I'm confused.

I ended up taking one with camera readings and one with the app readings, but the app readings seemed a bit off to me. Don't want to get to the end of the year and then discover I've got it all wrong.

So - have you used the app and was it accurate?

I haven't used that particular app but I have used a few others - on android I prefer Film Photography Viewfinder which provides other functions as well. Many light meter apps have a calibration function, either within the app itself or the Settings function of the phone. This allows you to set an offset (e.g. -1 ev) from the default reading, to ensure alignment with a known good meter

Nothing wrong in using a digital camera as your reference point.

Unless you are shooting slide film, an accuracy within 1 stop is usually good enough.

Update to my previous comment. I've just downloaded the Light Me app for Android and it gave me a reading almost identical to Film Photography Viewfinder.
Might the results depend on which Android phone is used? There's probably a much greater variety of sensors than in the iPhone range...

For most of my film photography, I use the "Exposure" app (free) on Android. It works well and has a couple of features that I like.
In common with other light metering apps I have used, I had to calibrate the app by adjusting it to agree with a known good metering source on a plain subject.
This one has -2 stops permanently set.
