If there is anybody who can speak Polish, could you please translate the following from a birthday card?

w dniu imienin najserdeczniejsze zyczenia

Dzis sa Towje imieniny, przyjmij zatem te zyczenia
zdrowia, szczescia, dziarskiej miny, w zyciu zawsze powodzenic

Chocby czaseu byto trudno, to pogody nie trac ducha,
zyi z fantazia, a nie nudno i wtasnego serca stuchaj

first off all those greetings are not for B'Day :) but for Names Day ( you do not have it here in UK ;) )

Let me try to translate...
" Its yours Names Day today so accept this wishes
health, luck, happy-brave face( sorry but have no clue how to translate 'dziarskiej') and luck in your life

Even if it can be hard sometimes, keep the smile on your face,
live with fantasy and not with boredom, and listen to your heart"

I'm Polish but still it is not easy to translate this kind of things :)
 
my mates girlfriend is polish - but she's i Poland til nxt week! :D

health, szczescia, a brisk face, in zyciu always powodzenic

Chocby czaseu byto difficult, these are weather not trac of spirit,

Guess I need another card then, don't think my missus would be to happy getting her the wrong card! Am I right in thinking:

wszystkiego najlepszego means all the best
and
Wszystkiego najlepszego z okazji urodzin means Happy Birthday?

I really need to start Polish classes!!!

On your Nameday* the most sincere wishes

Today is Your Nameday, hence accept then these wishes:
[hope you'll have] health, happiness, cool face* and good luck always in your life.

Although it might be sometimes hard, don't loose your good spirit,
live your life with rich imagination, and don't let it be boring and always listen to your heart.


*Nameday - it's mainly a polish tradition, where everyday is a day of some saint, for example St. Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's day, for us everyday is a day of some 2 or even three saints and if your name is the same as the name of a saint on a particular day then that day is your nameday.

* dziarskiej miny - it's a polish expression, which means to have a confident, cool-looking facial expression, the one that says 'you are the DUDE' :)
 
Shouldn't it be can anybody read and write or translate Polish?

The Greeks do the same, as do (IIRC) Orthodox Russians. In Greece on St Maria's day, 1/2 the female population celebrate!
 
I work with lots of Polish lads n lasses but I have only learned to swear in Polish .....

Ditto . . . and a couple of Polish idioms that don't translate particularly well into English.

I have been told about the "name day" thing though - and the change from "ski" to "ska" at the end of the surname on getting married.

I'm probably quite sad and geeky but I find learning these things about different cultures fascinating.
 
my missus gets a name day every year too... so its not very fair that she gets two birthdays a year, and i get one.. so i adopted a latvian name, and i get a name day on the 12th of December.. If anyone here forgets to buy me a present there will be trouble :)
 
Its actually confusing, my name is Marek and according to names day`s callendar there are two dates i could claim my names day?! Really dont know why?
But still its a nice tradition, to make somebodys day a bit more special :) Just imagine having it i England. Lets say its every James names day and now lets celebrate :) Party time:) and next day we can always celebrate another person`s name
