My broadband has been getting very slow lately going as low as 1/2 mb/. I have managed to get halfway through the bt speed test site and it informs me my line will support up to 3.5mb I am profiled at that speed.

When I have had problems in the past I have used an on-line fault report and they have always rang me back and rectified the fault but owing to the slow connection speed I am having difficulty finding the link to the page.

Can anyone give me the link.

Cheers.

That's the one Jonny:thumbs:, just got to find out my details now to sign in:D

Thanks.

Im with BT and I hate them.....Every work day exactly at 4PM our internet slows down...forget about downloading a file...sometimes even about watching live streaming ie iPlayer... it comes back at around 12AM...and its slow all wekend...

That's nothing to do with BT per se. Everyday at 4pm? What happens then? Kids come home and log on that's what. All copper wire broadband has a contention ratio, 50:1 if you're with BT but it could be higher. Therefore you share your bandwidth with up to 49 others logging on to whatever they're logging onto.

Has this started since Monday morning? If so then the network's been hit by people staying at home to work and accessing VPN. Tis doesn't just affect BTm it affects the whole web.

If your issues predate this though, the fault checker should help.

I was randomly rang by BT on Monday offering me money off my broadband. Of course I took it, she also offered me this BT vision. I decided to give it a go as well, Satanta sports is only £10 for the year, I think in total it's all costing me about £30 a month.

thats every work day..exactly at 4pm so it cannot be that few dozen of *** are switching their PCs at same time;-)

and thats for a longer while now...few months ...before it was 5pm...now its 4pm...
Luckily Im moving this month and im not going to use BT (hopefully) again as my internet provider...

This has been getting steadily worse over the last few weeks.

Noticed it was a lot faster this morning giving me the maximum line speed:), hopefully whatever was causing the fault has now been rectified but I will expect it to slow slightly at peak periods.
Great to open images instantly instead of gong back to the old dial-up days:)

First question is, have you reported it?

If not then how do expect BT or any other provider to do anything about somehting they have no sight of?

If it's happening at exactly the same time every work day then it's quite possible that someone locally is making use of ADSL as an extention of their WAN for some business purpose.

How far are you from the exchange? The further you are, the slower the rates you'll get. Again nothing to do with your provider, blame physics.

I had similar problems, and changed my channel on my hub and all is well again, but I do get annoyed with having to change the channel at least once a week!

And now we've slowed right down, similar to your problems Galaxy. I'm starting to get really hacked off with BT.

I have been using BT Broadband for about 3 years now and I have never had any problems whatsoever. Excellent service.

I use it on wireless at home and while away from home, in a B&B, and it's great.

I have now added BT Vision and it also appears to work well.

BT has been useless for me all weekend....speeds of 0.3 Meg each way on a 1.5 meg line !

Am not pleased with BT, seriously thinking of converting phone and broadband to Sky. Am not standing for high price BT broadband and low speed due to lack of BT investment in infrastructure. Also am fed up with their smoke and mirrors pricing and constant changes or should I say increases.

Do complain to BT about it, and be persistent. Keep a log of the speeds you're getting and just keep compaining until they resolve the issue. I had a similar thing a while back, it took BT some time to fix it but they did in the end.

The individual Engineers seem to be pretty good but the call centres can be quite useless at first until you demand that they escalate the fault. Eventually you tend to get through to someone who knows what they're talking about.

Oh... ask for a discount too! It's always worth trying.

cheers
Bill

They are upgrading their service, starting on the 20th of his month.(lasting 10 days) You have to be online at least one hour every day for this to take effect. The longer you are on per day the quicker you will get your new download speed. Was told this at the weekend by aBT engineer. Hopefuly it will work
