.....using the Brenizer method and a full frame dslr?

Be interested to hear your experiences?

More interested in headshots rather than the subjects being a small part of the composition!

I think Brenizer would be tricky with a headshot because of subject movement.

With 'still' subjects small in the frame you can end up with issues due to subtle movements in the minute it takes to capture all the frames.

The longer the lens you can use the better. 50mm tends to distort just a little to much. i prefer 85mm or even 135.

I found your earlier post about it - just wondering about where you took the pics - was one frame the main subject and the rest the surrounding space?

Yeah, I saw those earlier - phelps, Washington, Baldwin, clooney. I liked the effect but not the lighting!

@dancook are you about to try this?

I might need to get a ND filter for use with the 85 f1.4 so I can use studio lights!

I was just the other day wondering how to mimic large format photography with FF, stitching was on the list of ideas.

I have 85mm 1.2 and 3 stop ND which might be enough, depending on plans on Saturday I was going to do a little photoshoot with my wife so might give it a go then if she has the patience for me.

Great.....I'm (genuinely) looking forward to the results. I've got a samyang manual focus which I think will be ideal. Although the 70-200 might work ok too.

Did you have any other interesting resources I could take a look at?

I considered the use of a extension tube as well, the MFD of the 85mm 1.2 is about 3 foot - if the whole head fits in the frame it'd be a bit disappointing.

Hi dan

Saw a couple of you tube videos on the method and processing.

The Sam Hurd site was ok too. I liked his Denzel Washington pic but just wished he'd have had a tiny bit of separation between subject and background!

He's the only one I've found online who has the sort of thing I was looking for.

Apart from @Stevie- on here!!

Yes some of those came up in my Google image search the other day :) cool

There's just something about the look that I really like.

I don't want to spend more money on gear so if I can achieve a similar result, I'll be happy!!

I think the f1.2 will give some impressive DOF!!

Three shots - portrait orientation from left to right, probably overlapping by about a third to a half.

Did you have issues with the subject keeping still? I guess you have to have the right subject!

Dan, that's the look I think I want.....in the first (different lighting/composition aside). That looks great.

Obviously great minds......I took a quick couple of snaps but my daughter ran off!!

Natural light and in my messy computer room (camera room as the girls call it!!)

This might be something I look further into!

No issues with keeping still. I explained what was happening - generally they do well.

Having tried it, they don't have to stay still for too long!

Just need a cooperative subject. Tragically it's not really a self portrait kind of technique (or not easily done!!)

Had another go.......again limited by my daughters tiny time-span for keeping still. Am going to try with a more willing model. However, learned a lot from this brief exercise in terms of getting the right shots at the time. Happier with this shot compared to the first attempt but still not happy overall! They say the "third's a charm!!)
