Yes
Just wondering has anybody on here recently changed their address, on their driving Licence? Reason I am asking is because a mate of mine reckons he has to send another photo, with both his photo card and paper section. I reckon you don't need to send another photo, along with the Licence, as they already have photos stored on their computers. I think he may be getting confused with a Passport!

Already showed him what it says on the .gov website, I am reading it right aren't I ?

You can also change the address on your licence by post. The process is different if you have a photocard or paper driving licence.

Postal applications take up to 3 weeks.

Photocard driving licence
Complete the ‘changes’ section on your paper counterpart, sign and date it.

Then send both your photocard driving licence and the paper counterpart to:

DVLA
Swansea

Paper driving licence
Send the following to DVLA:

I *think* so. You're obligated to apply for a photo card if you're changing a paper licence in anyway, but change of address on an existing photo card shouldn't mean they need another

I changed mine about 6 months ago and i didn't need a new photo. but if his is due a photo change they may have asked for one

His current photo Licence is only about three years old, he is moving house so he is putting the new address on the Licence that's all. But he seems to think he has to send in another photo, along with the Licence. I told him he does not need another photo.

I would just let the mate sort it out. Make sure he takes a copy of the current license and checks the new one against the old for entitlements. Don't. Trust. The DVLA. An. Inch!

Anyone would think you had a bad experience with the DVLA!! :p

Don't get me started on th DVLA. Seems like all they care about is trying to fine people for not keeping their address up to date....even though they are perfectly aware your address has changed via HMRC.

This over and over again, the DVLA are feckless and useless, I've had several issues with them in the past

Oh and no matter the cost make sure it is posted, tracked and with a signature required

But I thought that's what mates are for :)

Well, if he thinks he needs to send a new photo (I definitely did but it was my first photocard license) let him, it can't do any harm!

Hopefully he won't need to use their "help" line - I'm sure they pick the broadest Welsh accented persons to man the phones.

And what's wrong with a broad welsh accent :p:D

Tell him to check his entitlements when he gets it back as well. It's not unknown for them to inexplicably remove your pushbike entitlement but find you can pilot a cruise missile instead.

Yes I will do.

It would have been a good idea, if he had of taken a photo of his licence. Just to compare and make sure, entitlements are the same as you said. I think he has already posted it off now.

You have to renew the photo on your license every 10 years. I had to get a new card 2 years ago because I lost mine (which I have since found, grrr), and I changed it 2 years previous to that too because of an address change. This license is only valid until December next year. If you look on the front of the card, the date by 4b: is when your current photo expires.

I didn't have to send a photo for an address change but what I did think was very efficient was when I renewed it, I gave my passport number and they used that photo. They will only do that though if your passport expiry is over 5 years away. I got my shiny new one within less than 2 weeks. And all done in 5 minutes online

I did mine online, no problem. I received the new licence in just 2 days.

From memory, there was no need for a new photo because my passport was less than 5 years old, and they link to the passport when you apply for the new licence.

I have got the date reminder for my change of photo, I think it's sometime in 2018. I don't think you get sent out a reminded, I think it's up to individual to remember. I'm sure a lot op people will be caught out by that one if so, nice little earner.

Now that's quick, seems online is the way to do it then :)

Absolutely nothing (and yes, I did see the smileys! ;)) but when you have to ask the person to repeat what they said several times to penetrate the accent, it gets boring!
