Any website designers?

Is there anyway to run an offline wordpress site just to see if I can actually do it? without getting involved with FTP, hosts etc etc
If you run Linux or OSX it is really easy, but as usual many ways lead to Rome.

If you do it often I would have a local MAMP installation, or perhaps a Vagrant or Docker. It depends on what your preferences are. I rolled up my own and just run it in a virtual machine to keep my local machine clean.

Alternatively your hosting provider should have a script to install, just install it to a sub directory and have a play.

Or alternatively sign up for a free Wordpress account and have a play on their servers.

If you open a free blog on wordpress.com you can play around all you want and see if you get to where you want. Then open your real site using your own URL on your own hosting account by installing the wordpress backend and replicating what you did on your free site. No-on will see your practise unless you tell them where the site is. Unless you have a lot of time on your hands and are prepared to learn some CSS code I wouldn't try to do it yourself, though. It's not just about building a site that looks representative. You need to be able to make it secure, deal with the SEO, learn how to attract visitors etc.. and the list goes on. Get it wrong and the site will just sit there helping you with very little other than a linkable online brochure. A pro will be able to help you design a site that not only looks how you want but also works for your business.

Cheers, I have my own wordpress blog setup and running.. but just don't know much about actually building a site..

I could possibly help, as well as photography, I design logo's, websites and consult on websites etc. It sounds like you are wanting something fairly simple, which should be fairly easy done :-)

Cheers,

Kenny

You can setup a piece of software to emulate a webserver ,there are two main options that I use, WAMP and XAMPP, which is generally install and go, but can depend on your computer etc!
