Any Virgin non cable customers about?

Bit of a bummer.

If it wasn't for my `Tiscali` email addy, I wouldn't stay with Talk Talk.
They've put their prices up & customer service is appalling if you need it.
I'd suggest those virgin customers `walk walk`

Without wanting to hijack the thread, who are the best ISP nowadays?

It seems Virgin and talktalk are crap, and I wouldn't recommend my ISP (BT) to my worst enemy!

Surely there's a half decent one out there?

Never had a problem with Virgin myself. This loss in emails doesn't bother me either. I can't even remember the one I made with them so no biggie.

Never use the email address provided by your ISP. There are plenty of others out there.

Been sleeping, have we :)

I had a broadband ONLY account with Virgin. I switched to BT and got a very substantial cost reduction and free weekend calls. Virgin download speed was 4.4Mb. I now get 7.7Mb. In under 6 months BT will provide superfast fibre for less that I was paying Virgin per month.

The problem is that they all vary greatly from area to area. Speak to as many folk as possible where you live and tap in to their experience. In my area TT have a bad name. Most folk use BT or Sky and are happy with them.
Virgin have not been taking new ADSL customers for a year. A couple of years ago Virgin had over 270,000 ADSL customers. They have managed to lose 170,000 of those and are migrating the rest to TT (it happens without customer consent unless they choose to get a MAC and go elsewhere).
I signed up for BT online. The process was fast, efficient and BT kept me well informed all the way. On the day of the changeover I noticed my Virgin connection "die". I plugged in my BT Hub and 2 minutes later was online again. BT also sent me a text saying my service was ready.

BTW, if you opt for Tesco then bear in mind that TT will also be taking over their customers soon.

No,obviously got lost in amongst the 30 threads a week you start in here :p

I was with Virgin for about 17 years. Generally reliable - disconnections occurred once every 2 years at most, but they tended to last for 5 - 7 days. There was certainly a slow decline. Support via email was withdrawn. The billing part of their website did not function correctly (Virgin assistant eventually told me not to waste time on it, just phone.) I began to find out that my neighbours were getting higher speeds with BT and Sky. Even TT was giving higher speeds, but folk here had reliability and customer service problems with them.
Virgin piled on the price rises until I was eventually paying £26.35 per month for broadband only (My phone was with BT). At the end of last year I joined the Virgin community forum and discovered that prices were not standard throughout the UK. Some folk were only paying £12 for the same service as myself.
The case histories on the Virgin Community forum and on ISP Review http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.ph...irgin-medias-copper-adsl-broadband-users.html paint s dismal picture of Virgin. Don't know about Virgin cable. Cannot get it here.
If you are a Virgin ADSL customer and cannot get cable it does not matter how happy you are. You will soon be a TalkTalk customer unless you get another ISP.

Cheers I'll look into that. My contract runs out at easter anyway.

Edit: forgot to mention mine is cable. I tried sky previously but where I am I can't get a signal. I'll have to keep my TV with Virgin but might look for other Internet. I've never been anywhere near their quoted speeds that I'm paying for.

Living out in Somerset I have trieda few ISPs. Worst by far was TT.

Went back to BT when a FTTC green cabinet appeared 70m from my house.

So hve been on Infinity 2 for some time, got a very good renewal deal and they upgraded my Home Hub 3 to a Jome Hub free of charge to give me Dual Bsnd and 4 Gigabit Ports. Rocksteady connection and no lag. With the BT Vision box, Unlimited badwidth and lowwst landline charge (line rental paid 12 months inadvance and have a VoIP line) I pay £32 per month equivalent.

Zero issues withe service to date.

Most neighbours are on Sky and TT internet but most are happy with their provider.

If you get a stable service the it really doesnn't matter. Some would like Virgin Cable locally but until Vrgin get 12,000 subscribers they will not cable a rural location like my area
