Any thoghts on this scanner?

is 5MP not bit low ?

I bought from ebay epson 2880. bit old but well recommended by users and am happy with it :)
scans negatives as well.

Would it be any quicker than a flatbed like my 4490? It's cheap, yes, but for simple lo-res contact sheet type images, quicker to scan through a couple of rolls?
I got my 4490 for £35 but it's a PITA, just two strips at a time. Although no. I'd probably have to boot into Windoze. There goes any time-saving.

If your only going to be scanning some older films and not actively using it all the time, then you may as well just use a scanning service where you will get much better quality for a lower price. Those cheap scanners are basically just webcams mounted to scan negatives and produce quite poor image quality.

This is the place that I use to scan my negatives, they do negatives, slides and print scanning of nearly any format and to an excellent quality:

To that particular question, the answer is a very likely yes. Probably a second or so.

It's essentially a low-quality digicam taking a photograph of the film, so it will capture almost instantly.

Whether the results will be worth using for anything beyond posting on Facebook is another question entirely.

Don't get that scanner. I had a play with one and the quality was terrible.

A resounding "NO!" then...!

I seem to recall a few people buying one from one of the budget places a while back and all being happy with the results, couldnt find the thread though.

a little late to the scene, but my short answer would be "NO"

my slightly longer answer would be "No, never again, had one, image quality was awful, software was worse, and it crashed horribly with the onboard TV tuner in the PC I wanted to use the scanner with, resulting in the only "blue-screen" crashes I've seen in 2 years of using this machine."

Have we put you off it yet ?
