Is there any online stores that still stock the Nikon 70-200mm VR MKI version as it seems that every store that I could possibly think of (including doing a search) DONT seem to stock this lens anymore, if they do it seems to be out of stock. It just seems to be the latest MKII version everywhere..

I would have thought that there may/would have been some going cheap but it seems that I am wrong...

I've looked on ebay but even that seems to be drying up on the MKI version now as a month or two ago there would have been a list as long as your arm, but now I'd be lucky to see 8.. (slight exaggeration) but I think you get my meaning.. For the sake of an extra £100 I'd rather get a new older version if they still exist than get the latest "cant afford it" MKII version..

Cheers for any help

My daft question time - thinking purely money wise wouldn't you be better of buying the VR2. The way I'm looking at it is the VR1, if you can find it, costs about £1,450 and sells second hand for about £1,000 to £1,100 - an instant £350 to £450 loss and the VR1 prices will only drop now.

The VR2 can be had easily now for sub £1,600 and won't really lose much second hand for a while, looking to me like the more sensible new choice?

I guess the other option is a second hand mint VR1, letting someone else suck up the loss

I was thinking of going for the VR2 but after reading about the "flaking insides" it had put me off althou according to Nikon themselves "its nothing to worry about as it doesn't effect the lens"..

Mmmmmmmm £1600+ for a lens that has paint problems... Maybe I am thinking too much of a possible resale problem in many a years time when the need may arise to sell it... Which I'd imagine would NOT be the case as this is supposed to be the dogs testies...

we cant order them anymore. Discontinued :(

Stuart

Thanks Stuart, it seems that that is the reply to many an enquiry that I've made to stockists....

I'm not sure I'd worry about this - I can onlyt go on my sample size of 1 but I've not had an issue.
