Dipping toe in water....

i have been asked if i would like to shadow a local rugby tog.. i have done some matches for my sons school and his county matches. (no i am not showing you lot i have more brain than tat lol) they are not good at all... Yv will vouch for that. but as the new season is coming up and knowing i will be doing more of his games i think this a great idea..and she will pay me she "says" for any shots she uses from me.... but for me it about getting help and experiance.

any tricks or help you can give would be great.. sorry to ramble

Terri

Sheffield Tigers in National Three North for me again this season.

I see Sheffield have joined up with Doncaster Knights to promote development of South Yorkshire Rugby.

We might be able to borrow some of your players ;)

Very good idea, its the best way of developing young talent as well.

b****r, just seen this - I was at the game as well (not with a camera though)!! :D

tut tut... i was around the half way line.. posted some pics in another thread and got some published in league weekely and league express today... ikle pictures on front page even :)

I'm out and about most Sundays taking junior RL shots from a couple of games for the NWC Counties leagues websites. Usually find most of them cropping up on the lads facebook pages shortly afterwards. (I freely let them nick them from my flickr!)

Did some last year for the RFL for the Under 18s National Squad selection festival (more because I was going to be there anyway helping out and they realised they had no-one). Did get one of them in League Express on the Monday though.

Need to get some faster glass though to turn reasonable shots into good ones.

I'm doing London-based Guinness Premiership this season, plus all the England home internationals i.e. the Investec Challenge & 6 Nations.

I've put a bunch of Dean Richards & Tom Williams pics in recently but got no "bloodgate" coverage yet. Unfortunately for me, only David Rodgers from Getty got the pic of Williams leaving the field - good luck, pitch position, and great awareness to take a non-action shot. Must have made Getty a fortune.

I'll also photograph my son's U15s school rugby if I get a chance. Priority call - England v Australia or school rugby with my son. Hmmm :-)

It's a hard choice sometimes! Tell you what I'll cover you at the England - Australia so you can go to your sons match!

Not so mate, Karina Hoskins got some too. She just didn't send them out at the time as didn't see the significance. Think she's making a few quid out of em now :)

I would have put in for it if it was on a sunday as i believe it should ahve been :( but all my saturdays are booked in the football season...

I done it last year and the whole event/day was a let down regards media i felt. I got images out and used in trades papers/mags but the whole seeding rank thing is wrong, red bibs can go on pitch to get shots and all others on outside tarmac path bit. The red bibs togs had players with the cup with crowd in background which mainly meant all us blue bibs got was backs etc. Again, same with prime position for the lift of the cup too.

I know im not the only one that had issues in the exposure of the pitch, a difference in nearly 3 full stops from very dark shadows to very bright sunlit area. Shooting RAW is the way forward at Wembley but time restraints hinder that.

I sure wouldnt be rushing to shoot at Wembley again anyway. I will be there of course, Watching the greatest cup comp in the greatest game cheering on Huddersfield !!! (well, supporting Widnes I can hardly cheer Wire!) I hope Briers gets Lance Todd trophy though

Your bob on there.. wembley is poor in daylight for photographing. Also football aint much better for who (what togs) can or cant do what at full time.. Believe me its football as well..

I do the Bridgend Ravens RFC photographs (relegated last year) I have been for the past 4 years, photos are uploaded on to webshots.com then linked to our site, unfortunatly I will miss the first 3 games this season due to a prior engagement, but then I do not intend to miss a game.
One or two appear in the local press each week.

Watched a video on bbc of last years final and the sun and shadows looked horrendous, ive already been told not to expect too much in the way of outstanding images if the suns out and im positioned shooting into it or positioned shooting from the shadow into the sun lit areas.

I will be at Wembley watching the game but no camera. Well, I might take the compact with me for street shots

Yep - I'm at that one with instructions to "shoot editorial". Guess that'll be me at the sideline nearest the dugout rather than at the ends, and getting the guys coming off the bus, macro shots of the inside of the medics kit bags and close-ups of socks etc etc :D
