Hi,

As title, looking for an iPad camera connection kit. Has anyone bought one that isn't official does it work well? Any recomendations?

Thanks

Mark

Yep I have one. Works fine. You get two little connectors, one is USB and one is for an SD card. I normally use the SD card one and pop the card in, and the import window automatically opens up. Then you either import all the pics or select the ones you want and import them.

The pics go into a "last import" folder.

Then you are stuck with the usual crippled Apple on-board photo management (ie non existent).

It's a good idea to load up a good photo editing app. I use Filterstorm which is very good indeed. With that combo the iPad and connector kit makes up a superb travel companion as long as you don't take too many pics.

But at the end of the day Apple should have put a USB and SD card reader on the iPad from the start.

I bought one of the Ebay ones, allegedly the updated, improved version. All it did was throw up an error message saying it wasn't compatible. Cost a tenner, but really it looks like something from the pound shop.

I got one from eBay, gives a message saying not compatible but still transfers pics, has worked fine for me and I use it a lot, the first one I got didn't work though but the seller sent me a replacement next day

I purchased one from ebay and initially it worked perfectly, transfering from both the SD reader and the USB but as IOS has been updated Apple has changed the maximum power you can draw from the connector at the bottom of the ipad, this means that I can still transfer from the USB but not the SD.
I understand that this problem is not just limited to third party connection kits but also to the official Apple product, so be aware of this limitation before purchase!

The official Apple kit still works fine for SD under IOS 5 on iPad2

Hi, I've got a cheap copy kit, still working with IOS 5

It works ok for some people others not, from what I have read it depends on the SD card which is used? (I use sansdisk ultras & extremes)
From the Apple support forums it has been said that from ios4.2 Apple lowered the current output of the connector port from 100mA to 20mA, to try and stop people using non apple products i.e. external USB HDD etc, it so happened that as this change was made alot of people lost the use of the SD adaptor on both the OEM version and the third party ones.
I have subsequently moved over to the Eye-fi solution which works perfectly.

I use the original Apple kit with my iPad running iOS 5, I have no problem with Sandisk Extreme SD cards or Extreme or Ultra CF cards. (I have found the CF card reader used is more important than the card, 2 of my readers wouldn't work and caused a power error message on the iPad, but a third one works perfectly every time).

Could you name your working CF reader as none of mine work since IOS 4.2, not a biggie as it don't use the iPad in concert with the 7D any more but always useful to have.

It's just a cheap very small multi reader (not a great deal bigger than a CF card), I think I paid about £3 for it in a small computer shop. It has no actual name on it, other than "all in 1".

I'll upload a pic of it later if it would help?

I had a cheap one from ebay, it worked for all of a day before dying.

If you could, then I could keep my eye out for anything that looks similar, thanks.

I'm lost, how does this connect to your iPad?

quite easily (what this thread is about) using the camera connection kit.

So what are the best 3rd party camera connection kits or the iPad 2 on iOS 5?

See my post above buy the apple kit £25 and shell out £2 for one of the cf card readers I got, that way you cover all bases.

Yeah I saw that, cheers Chris. Was just hoping I could get a cheaper version of the apple kit.

You can if you troll ebay m8, but for me I didn't think it was worth it when I was passing the Apple centre in Manchester LOL.

iPad 2 camera connection kit

Anyone had any luck with a 3rd party one? I need to get one, but will be only using it with CF cards, so would have to use an extra card reader connected to the CCK.

Yep they seem to work I have one from ebay £5. I wanted it for holiday so i could have a look at what i'd shot without having to take a laptop.
