Any photographers here based in Paris?

more details would be good... is this a job offer ? are you after information about shooting over there? are you just being a creepy stalker?

this is a forum, it thrives, nay exists on discussion - how about rather than trying to go to PM's you actually discuss things in the forum...

If you're not a photographer based in Paris, what does it matter to you? A forum is also a meeting place, not exclusively a place for discussion, and there is something rather intrusive about you (as someone to whom this thread clearly doesn't relate) expecting to know the reason for my questioning.

Well done on proferring the least helpful, least friendly response to a straightforward question I have ever received during my nigh on ten years of using this forum...

Has it occurred to you that maybe Mark is trying to actually help you here, at the moment your thread is so devoid of content it's practically impossible for people to work out what the thread is about and as to if they could help..

All we know is you want to know if someone is a photographer and in paris....okay for example I'm a Parisian photographer based in the south of city and specialising in photographing only the right testicle of stray dogs how can I help you with that?

I'm not I'm actually not in France and I actually prefer the left testicle of ferrel cats but that's a moot point, so instead of being coy and confrontational about what you'd like help with, why not be forthcoming so that people might be able to offer help

my nephew is a keen photographer - and a member of the Camera Club at the British Embassy in Paris where he works

if you'd outline your requirements - here, not by PM - I'll ask if he can advise you in any way

Quite Simple really - I'm on the staff here... We had a number of RTM's about this thread, the suspicious nature of what you were asking, speculating on what was behind the clandestine behaviour, especially from a member who seems to post in sporadic bursts of half a dozen posts every six months or so... SO - I asked...

and, after your reply, I have to say, my moneys still on "creepy stalker"...

I'm very surprised. Clandestine behaviour? Reviewing my posting habits? Hypersensitive, me thinks. Would it not be quite ludicrous for me to use this forum for nefarious means when, as a trader on it, I have divulged contact information and personal details? The answer is yes. As to your response, as a moderator, perhaps the more professional approach would have been to cut out the sarcasm and finger-pointing and instead leave it as a genuine enquiry as to the purpose of my post?

My post relates to the possibility of work for a photographer based in Paris. Because we seem to like conspiracies here, let me indulge you. The circumstances of needing to hire a photographer are indeed secret and not something I am comfortable disclosing on a forum which could, ultimately, be viewed by family members to whom the request relates.

I don't know whether you are content for this thread to remain open or whether you would sooner I create a new thread with some more details and hope RTMs don't come flooding in again. I shall await your instruction.

Thanks Yardbent. As I say, it is an offer of work but not one which I am prepared to disclose publicly. What may be worthwhile is me channelling my enquiry through the camera club of which your nephew is a member. Their intemeddling and cynicism might not be as distracting... [emoji106]

Had you just replied to Marks enquiry with this in the 1st place, he would have informed you that we have a specific section for job adverts and he would've offered to move it for you.

But hey, far better to go on the defensive and start an argument!

I was not forthcoming by design, read above.

Would not posting about Paris in a jobs section on a photography website regarding a family member who knows my forum usernames but doesn't know they are going to Paris defeat the whole purpose of my enquiry?

Look, quite clearly there are a few of you whose cynicism (and I daresay boredom?) make you more disposed to being know-it-alls and groupthink to see my post for exactly what it was which was a fishing expedition for someone who might have been able to help. This is absolutely not the forum I remembered, and enjoyed, and it's really quite a shame that - like many other forums - the self-righteous appear to be on a forward march, leaving the genuinely pleasant, busy, amongst us to fall into a silent majority.

Mods, close it up. Regrettably it would appear TP has no inclination to assist on this occasion, Yardbent excluded (Coincidentally, I think I may have traded with you before!).

None of which was known at the time of Mark's post.

So, if we try and ascertain the nature of your post in order that it should maybe e placed in the correct section of the forum (a section designed specifically for your type of request which) means that are cynical (bored even) and self-righteous?

But that's just it, we have tried to assist but you've gone straight on the defensive and completely misinterpreted what has been said to you. I suggest you look at your own attitude before judging others.

Thread now closed as per your request.
