Gonna hijack this thread. SiL needs her room painting and has chosen matt emulsion. >This< stuff. The room has had areas replastered and smoothed down with one of those mouse hand sanders.
Does it need primer or other base coat? Or will two coats of the matt emulsion be sufficient?
I didn't even realise Laura Ashley did paint. Looks like it still needs to be avoided.

I think I assumed that Dulux or somebody good were making it for them. And TBH the shades are pretty nice. But "patchy" would be a generous description.
I did the same thing last year when I assumed B&Q paint would be good by now. After 2 coats it looked horrid and I had to put on another coat of Dulux "Once" to be sure. Wouldn't normally use one coat but I couldn't face a 4th coat of the same room........
I did say to get paint colour matched to what she's after but she's adamant that she's gonna use Laura Ashley. Our own house has been decorated with Laura Ashley wallpaper some time before we moved it. SiL loved it so much she decided to get a Laura Ashley advisor for design ideas.I don't want to put you off, but last time I used Laura Ashley paint was a l-o-n-g time ago. Shortly before I vowed never to use it again. And some time after I started on the third coat.
They may be better now, but I'd seriously consider getting some Dulux mixed to the shade your SiL wants. Or just using Dulux Dove Grey and claiming it always looks different from the shade card![]()
Maybe show her the terrible reviews first.I did say to get paint colour matched to what she's after but she's adamant that she's gonna use Laura Ashley.
