Hi All,

Apologies I haven't been around being a nuisance and asking lots of questions (like normal). But family business came up etc... so I took some time off.

Anyway, over the weekend, I bought myself a new Digital Piano. Music and Photography are my only hobbies, but both are VERY time consuming.

I haven't owned a piano for just over a year and a half (due to moving out etc).

But now, I finally have one! Got myself a Roland 300 SX.

My question is, do you guys and girls have any other hobbies apart from photography?

Thanks,
Amnesia

My only other hobby is triathlon - with a preference for Ironman distance races. Training takes a LOT of time although am in the base building season at the moment so have a bit of time for photography :)

Oooooh...... another musician - at last. Yup - my other hobby is music: brass and synthesisers, another very expensive hobby to boot. I have been playing brass since I was 11, and am more recently a keys learner. I have several synths and love using composing and recording my own music using Cubase. I am not really a keyboard player and am totally self taught, but I love the music that can be produced with todays modern day synths.

Have you recorded any of your own stuff...? if so, what do you use, what génre do you compose in...? Maybe we can share compositions on here...?

National and Internation Powerboat Racing (well part of the rescue team)
www.osprey-rescue.org.uk

Supermoto Bike Racing - Team Photographer for Race Team and 2 Promoters, did have a race bike but too old, slow, fat, untalented so sold it!

Mountain Biking - Own a Cannondale Prophet 800 and love trying to kill myself!

Obligitary - Computers! Macs just recently but PC's the last 20 years!

Carl.

I'm a bit of a crafty one i'm afraid, quilting and knitting, my favourite item is a kingsize quilt hand pieced over 7 years in reds and purples. very oriental looking!

I also make cards!:whistling: :D

I enjuoy a little tinkle on the old ivories (only my plastic Yahama keyboard jobbies though), and I suck at it :D

Apart from photography and this forum, thats the extent of my hobbies really. I'd like to say going to the gym, but I dont go nearly as much as I should.

I am a drummer and a guitarist but not in a band, Just for fun.

If I've not got a camera in my hand, I'm normally working the dog, although these do combine nicely. Otherwise messing about on the computer or watching rugby.

Nice to see more musicians here!

Well, I haven't played Piano for one a half years. This is the first time I've got back into it.

I'm classicaly trained (is that good or bad? you decide :) ) so I'm not too much into "computer" music.

I've just bought a Roland SX-300 which I love playing.

I don't have any compositions yet, but am working on a few things. I just need to figure out how to get my Keyboard into my laptop etc.

Is that your setup in your avatar? I'm SOOOO Jealous, I'm saving for a Hard Disc recorder that I can play my Piano through.

I wouldn't mind hearing some of your compositions though.

I get involved in amateur drama, not the luvvie-duvvie acting side, but the technical side - lighting / sound / set

We also have a F3 car in the family which we play with.

Photography is one hobby that links the other two quite nicely.

Another musician here. Currently singing in a band, but I also play the piano. I started at age three and studied through college. I was also classically trained, but went to college in Chicago where I learned blues. I still write music from time to time, but am having a lot of fun just singing these days.

We're set to record again on October 13, so I'll have more to share soon.

Classically trained is most certainly good... I only wish I could play the piano like some I have heard... I tend to play it as though I am using my feet !!!!

Yup - that's part of my setup in my avatar, I also have a Casio piano too (well, that's really my daughters). I have 3 hardware synths and a few softsynths too. The hardware ones are:

Access VirusTI - awesome VA synthesiser used a lot in trance and dance stuff. Brilliant for filters and sweeping sounds.

KORG Radias: excellent synth for all sorts of stuff

KORG Karma: some of the sounds out of the box are breathtaking...

SoftSynth Absynth - this is undoubtedly one of the best soft synths out there. Really weird ambient sounds and noises!!! 10 second demo of mine

As for connecting your keyboard into your laptop - you're best connecting with a MIDI device and recording this into something like Cubase or an alternative MIDI package. If you want to record the audio directly, you could use Audacity - which is a free audio recorder. The thing is with recording audio directly - is that you can't edit it easily if you play wrong notes etc. With MIDI, you can get your Roland to play back to you exactly what you have just recorded.

Do you have a mac or PC...?

EDIT: Here's one of mine for a starter for 10... it's an up-beat electric guitar solo sort of thing!!!

Mountain biking,
Walking,
Gym,
are all things that take up my free time, photography itself gets very little time :(

Birding ... :D ...

I play at the Bass once in a while these days but my lovely Tacoma fretless has been more ornamental than instumental in the last year or two.

....and when money and time permit I like getting my neglected old track car out doing what it does best. :D

Any other hobbies?? well, fly fishing, old motorbikes and boats. Costs a fortune but money is not everything. Regards Jim

I have played bass (by ear) since school and bought an alto sax about a month ago. I'm learning to read music for the sax which I wish I had done when I first played guitar.

I have a motor bike which I have done some custom work on (I'll have to post a pic to see what people think) and I like all types of angling.

Oh!!! and listening to Rammstein!!!!!!!!!!!!

Combat pistol shooting and restoring a 1950 Ford Mercury.

Fly from time to time but it has been some time...

Generally bankrupt because of these 3 and cannot afford any more:'(

Would love to get onto something with 2 wheels again:nuts:

Oh and scuba when the conditions are REALLY nice...

Oh and used to play Bb Trumpet...still own it since 1987...

Wow!! Soooo many different hobbies here! The remote control helicopter seems like fun. I bet that's expensive though.

I think it's also safe to say, that Photographers no matter how amateur or professional, just can't settle for ONE expensive hobby? :-P

MusicMan, I've sent you a PM :)

I play bass in my band, we've just launched our first cd at our gig on saturday made £208 overall which is great stuff ! www.myspace.com/sixshotsatmidnight if any of you are interested :)

Counts as a hobby right ...

Looks like the photography often follows the other hobbies because you want decent pics of your original hobby?!

Then it obliterates the wallet and pretty much kills the original hobby!!

I have always managed to pick quite expensive hobbies...

My most recent have been...

Basic PC programming
Minimoto racing
NitroRC truck racing
Mini Owners club+restoration (Pre-BMW)
Once ive passed my driving test im hoping to get into Weekend racing (hillclimb and trackday events)

Other hobbies: like Ladybird im a bit crafty, i also read alot and mess about on the pc. Currently reading the wheel of time series.

Motorsports (that how i got into photography and is my main subject)
Cycling of the road racing type, had to cut down following a car acident and injuries sustained, which led to having more time for the motorsport photographer to take over the weekends.
Gym general fitness, i train 7 times a week even when away on holiday.

Fitting work around that lot leaves me with very little time to anything else.

I fly one of these when I'm not out with my camera!

GBHLX.jpg

Watching rugby and making cards and digital scrapbooks (albeit not very well  ) and collecting craft items to never be used ie 300 stamps, a sizzix, some dies etc etc :lol::lol:

Work tends to take up all my time and I have three kids which need a bit of tending however I have a reputation for having great pastimes and sports so try to keep one or two on the go.

Flying remains a great love and want to move on with this. Not a fan of things like that bus above (sorry Mike) so kind off either need to make a million or so to get a fast jet or keep it real with open cockpit / seat of pants stuff.

Mountain Biking. Life long past time that I still find rewarding even if my hips hurt.

Sex instructor. Few bookings left so you'll have to move quick (good hip therapy)

Hill Walking. Scotland is made to be seen from above so you simply must walk/climb/ski the lumps.

Water Sports. Used to be water skiing (how I met my wife) and jet-skiing but now looking to purchase a kayak as touring becomes more interesting. Pipe and slippers next!

Done so many other things but not with any regularity and probably won't do again. Who knows hat the future has in store. Whatever it is I want to take a camera!!!
