any other alternatives to a mbp 17"

sorry but macs do slow down over time, believe me, ive had to rebuild enough of them. that drag to trash method of removing programs is horrible.

W7 doesnt really need any maintenance, defrag is taken care of automatically if needed (not that NTFS fragments as much as the old FAT file systems, and if you have SSD its disabled anyway). havent run a manual one since XP and that was years ago. reg cleaners, again arent really necessary.

havent tinkered (read: maintenance) with any of my W7 builds since install in fact.

I suspect that Jamie's XP pc was crap compared to the mbp which is why he sees less slowdown.

If it booted fine when you got it and took 5 minutes after some length of time of ownership then it can be classified as a PICNIC problem ;) :)

Haha, yet the same person in the same chair finds that an alternative OS produces none of the same problems he's experienced in the past.

Anyway, i'm out of here before you throw anymore geeky acronyms at me that I have to Google! Different strokes for different blokes as they say :)

sony have just released a new range of F-Series laptops and this spec i can get for £1400

41.6 cm LCD, 1920x1080 Premium
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 540M 2GB

what you guys think?

Looks good....

Bottom line - do you want to go Mac World or stay in Windows world?

I have 1 of each (!) and whilst I love my MBP I don't hate my Windows laptop

The only other thought is how long you'll keep for? a Mac tends to keep a higher resale value than a Windows based PC. Just a thought that may sway you from a ££ perspective.

im not bothered which window i look out of just want to make sure its the right window for me. my current machine a 5yrd old vaio has served me well but now struggles with my new hobby.

i was all sold on a mbp, but looks like the new spec of f-series vaio's will serve me well. resale value is not important to me as will just pass the machine down to a family member in future. furthermore, the new machine only has to last me two years until i go for a dedicated desktop unit.

some when i weigh up all the facots and ££ being one of the most important criteria to forfill i think i am going for a windows based new vaio.
