Any one used Aperture 3

Am a mac user for my sins, have an old photoshop which is sadly loss compatibility with the new OS.

But seen can pick up Aperture 3 for ~£50, any opinions out there?
 
I use Aperture 3. Little improvements over Aperture 2 as expected but works very well. In terms of being a Mac user, this is the only reason I took up photography as I now have time. Never had the time with a PC as I was forever trying to work out all the Windows errors :)
 
Having used Aperture 3 and now Lightroom, its night and day. Aperture can burn in hell. Certainly not worth 50 quid imo, I payed 130ish for it when it first came out and nearly broke down into tears after using it for a week.
 
I use Aperture 3 and think it's a fantastic bit of software, never had a single issue with it.

It'll do all lightroom can, for a LOT less money.

Funny, because that's exactly how I felt about lightroom after trying the demo. Happy Aperture user here.
 
avid user of aperture 1 , 2 and 3.
Put up with what has always been an incredibly buggy and unreliable piece of software because I didnt want to have to learn something new.
When Aperture 3 came out and was almost as buggy as 1 and 2 I finally gave up and switched to Lightroom. I wont ever be going back.

If you are a pro photographer you cant afford to waste time on Aperture.

and note how long between updates.
so basically with ap3 there were still stability issues (i.e. it kept crashing!) for 1.5 years (thats assuming they finally fixed it), or 6 years if you started with ap1. Thats a long time to be making up excuses to customers about why they have to wait for photos.
 
The only time that Aperture has let me down was when I was working on an image that was 18000 pixels wide... Even then, all it did was crap out, so all I had to do was re-open. It only happened once or twice though, and other than that, it's been solid as a rock

I bought my copy last year, when the price was about £160, and I'd say it was worth it then, so I'd say for 50 quid, you can't really go wrong...
 
Cheers for the advice, I certainly ain't a pro just a keen hobbyist and a bit of a geek.

Think it worth the punt for £55, I'm sensing it not for some on here. But £200 to £50 no competition really
 
I have Aperture (on my MBP) and Lightroom (on my PC). I find image editing far easier on Aperture, so much so that I currently prefer doing any editing on my 13.3" MBP screen than on my dual 24" screens on my desktop PC.

Aperture does crash sometimes, but not often enough for it to cause a massive problem. The only thing that Lightroom does that I prefer is the way you can do sharpening with the masking etc while holding down the alt key.
 
Can't say I've had Aperture 3 crash on me ever. Just done the latest update to 3.2 and that went fine as well. As per usual in OSX just do a permission repair after updating software to ensure all is fine.

Oh and 'update improves overall stability and performance issues' is about as descriptive as point updates get for any apple software, I wouldn't read anything into that.

Huge advantage it has on any of the adobe products are the excellent brushes, no gaffing about with this 'old' concept of layers and god knows what. Just brush in/out where you want it. But even more importantly it has full integration with the apple media browser. that means that any of you raw images are accessible to any other application without having to perform an export to jpg first etc. All happens automatically.

Oh and don't forget that if you have multiple mac, the app store version does allow multiple installs :)
 
Another happy user of A3. Been using it for several months now and very few -if any- crashes. I'm suprised to hear that being mentioned as it's the stability of the program that almost impresses me most. Not tried LR but not really felt the need.
 
I have to agree with Jean-Paul, the idea of layers just looks really outdated when compared to the AP 3 bush in/out methord.

File > Import > iPhoto Library ;)
 
Let us know your opinions once you get used to it. I think you will like it. :)
 
Update:

Very impressed by the software, for £50 not a bad upgrade from iPhoto, not quite got it working to same level as PS but it is a lot easier to achieve good results.

And a big thanks to all replies for the input
 
I've been looking into getting this and with all the good reviews I have heard its not worth spending the money on Adobe products for them to do exactly the same but cost well over double.
 
Lightroom 4 public beta has just been released so may be worth a look.

I've had some training sessions at the apple store. And they were able to relate how to perform adjustments using brushing in or out vs layers in adobe. I find the aperture way so much more natural in doing stuff.
 
I have Aperture 3 sitting all alone on my Imac, used it a couple of times then reverted back to Photoshop as I, like Gary couldn' get away with it!
