Any norms for bag layout?

Are there any norms for laying a bag out in a particular way or is it all a case "whatever fits"? Just got a flipside 500 so I can have a single bag. Currently an r6mk2 with 70-200 in there and an m50 with 17-55 but that's likely to become something similar in size to the r6 shortly.

I use an upmarket interpretation of that. A Domke shoulder bag with all the inserts removed. (y)
 
No norm, of course! Anything that makes sense.

Personally, and for a few years now, I have been using Peak Design bags of various sizes, depending on the sort of kit I need to take with me. Initially, their Everyday backpacks appealed because they could be accessed from the side, without having to unload the bag from your shoulders and set it on the ground. Then, the cleverness and manufacturing quality grew on me and I acquired more of their products.
 
I tend to have a camera body each end, and lens in the middle. No real reason, it seems to be the way some bags are set up, so I just went with it. Personally I like to have a lens on the body as well, but it's not a deal breaker for me.
 
All depends what kit I'm taking I have really 4 setups, BTW the 3 F-Stop bags are kept packed like they are in the photos, the Domke gets loaded per trip often into my motorcycle tank bag..

Do it all wet weather stuff, with this one I also have an extra body Fuji X-T2 with 16-55 in a Toploader over my shoulder.

I don't think there is a norm - not for me anyway. Massively depends on what I'm photographing, what gear I'm taking and the location too. Plus what extra stuff aside from photo gear I might be taking.
 
What you have can be described as somewhat compact. My OH has an R6 plus 70-200/2.8RF which can even be carried around in a normal bag (or standard rucksack). Options are more limited when we want to take out our 300/2.8 or 500/4 lenses, even more so when battery grips are attached to the camera.

Thanks Wayne, the Tank Bag just sits on top of the tank held in place by2 flaps thatsit on the side of the tamk and have magnets inside them. They work fine and I have used that setup for long journeys as well as work commuting.
 
Sadly no good for me then, mine is a false plastic tank. :(
 
It depends on the bag and its usage.
My main bag is a Think Tank roller and this is configured to have two bodies with longer lenses attached, as thats what I normally need. If I switch to a backpack, I'll try and build it so most of the weight is lower down, so the weight is distributed better for balance.
 
That's one item I don't have a " norms " wheren can I get one ? :giggle:
 
I generally travel very lightly - I have 3 camera backpacks with different levels of stuff that I swap around as I need it. One is really big that can take extra lenses and strobes, the other two are smaller, with the lowest weight one below - just a camera, one spare battery, and some star, haze, polarising filters, wipes, in the top section. It's kinder for my back!! I just take this about 90% of the time. Occasionally I travel with the other small bag which is identical to this, but has extra stuff in it - usually another body and lens and maybe single strobe if I need it.

got three bags, two over the shoulder and one backpack. Whichever goes out of the house is usually full of sandwiches, drinks and snacks :D
 
recently started using an old lowepro micro trekker 200 bag i had stashed away but not used for years - nicely fits my 1ds & 24-70/2.8 with some spare room for some snacks, clothing etc
