Yes
I've been using my Nikon D40X almost every weekend for about a year now, but whilst its been a great camera, I find its functions a bit limiting. Its also a bit annoying to have to go into the menu system to adjust settings.

I'm now starting to consider getting a new body, one that will last me for sometime. I've been considering the D200 as the D80 isn't a great deal better then the D40X. Whilst the D300 is a bit out of my budget, the D200 is getting a bit old now. I'm left thinking is there something new thats just around the corner that Nikon will be bringing out that may suit my needs?

I've been looking around the forum for rumours and read about the possibility of a D90 and some full frame cameras. But does anyone have any solid details of likely new releases from Nikon?

D300 is still pretty new.

D80 is probably the next one due for replacement - do Nikon rotate their models on an 18 month basis like Canon? In which case some research on historical release dates would give an indication on where the next update is due.

Apart from that everything is speculation - some of the chaps here seem to have their ear quite close to the ground with regards to updates from Nikon

The rumours of the D700 look rather interesting. Some fairly feasible evidence around too. Basically its a D3 sensor in a D300 body.....

Just when I purchased my D300!

My thinking is the D80 replacement will be a baby D300, just like the D80 was with the D200.

The D80 is due to be replaced next, with my logic. The D60 and D300 have replaced the D40x and D200 this year. The D80 was released in mid-2006.

Sounds plausible, but for me unless the D80 replacement is as good or better than the D200, I'd probably wait for the D300 to drop in price or just go for the D200?

The D80 replacement will be better than the D200. Looking back, the D80 is more advanced than the D100.

I don't think the D300 will drop much else in price. The D200 was still £900 not long before the D300 came out. I paid £950 for the D300 last week from Jessops.

My best guess is that the replacement for the D80 will be announced at photokina. Assuming that nikon follows their old pattern it will use the D80 body and the D300 sensor with sundry upgrades, which would be a nice piece of kit.
