Anyone used a Hasselblad H3D-II-31 (Or any other integrated system) or a Hasselblad 503CWD with a CFII-39 digital back (or any other digital back)? If so, have you come across any niggles, pros or cons? Im trying to work out if we would be better off getting an integrated system like the H3D-II-31, or get a digital back to fit a 503CWD.

I use a Leaf back on a Mamiya AFD but I don't know an awful lot about the Hassy (imacon??) backs.

There is almost as much diversity now in digibacks as there is in all the other areas of digital shooting. The key to getting the right system is still the same, fitting the costs to your needs.

I'm not a believer that the vast number of megapixies you can have now are needed and whilst the newer hassy cameras are very good, I'm not convinced that the Fuji lenses that go with them are any better than the older glass for the 6*6 cameras.

If you need speed and AF, then you have no choice really but I'd rather have the 500 series for my work.

It's so sad, the rate that we're lossing so many great names in engineering. It's not even close to just the camera market either. :'(

I can't see that it wold be a major blow to Leaf. The camera is a Schneider lens with a leaf back and a box in the middle made by Rollie.

Thanks for the reply. Looking at the Calumet site, there isn't actually that much price difference between the integrated systems and digi back + body. I think im leaning towards the integrated system due to the AF, more pixies (we do tend to print up to 44" wide) but mainly I want to give the students (I work in a uni) an accurate an experience as they could have in industry. Im also wanting to take modern digital photography as far as possible.

Do you know if you can use old glass with the newer H3D bodies? We currently have 2 x 150mm f4, 1x 50mm f4 and loads of 80mm lenses for the 503 bodies and it would be a shame if they didn't work on the H3D body.

Don't know what backs you've looked at but you might want to keep on eye on this situation.

Thanks for that. I was actually aware of the situation after out Calumet rep told me about it. Great shame about them going under.

Ahhh, gottcha.

have you considered a view camara platform for the digiback? Some of the new fully integrated kits are really amazing and certainly the way that commercial world is going again, after initially ditching old film view cameras with adapter plates for MF platforms.

I used a hassy-made digi back (dunno the model no.) that belonged to my 'tog tutor once or twice, just to get a feel of what it was like. I used it on my old hassy, but something just didn't feel right. I think its just that I love the good old ilford 120! I can see how it would be useful though, especially in a studio. But if I was out and about, its just too much weight on something that is allready pretty heafty.

Well this is something I have also considered. We currently have a couple of 5x4 view cameras using sheet film, and a 10x8 field camera (That never gets used), but I was considering the option of getting a smaller view camera such as the Sinar P3 or F3 for use with a digi back. If we did this, then a digi back would be better as we could also use it with a Hasselblad 503. Have you got any experience with these smaller format view cameras?
