Any knife/weapons collectors on here?

Had a good mail day here too, my TT1 arrived from HH along with my new wallet a Maxpedition Spartan. And an order from Fasttech arrived in 8 days from posting, no sharp stuff as I think I said earlier, just led bulbs and a screwdriver.

The handle looks similar to my Sanrenmu but what kind of steel is that blade, Hugh?

Tried to google it and on Heinnie's but no joy.

I still await my knives from Gearbest but at least they are all shipped now:rolleyes:

It's almost certainly made by Sanrenmu Mike, the entire Boker Plus range is Chinese made and I know that Sanrenmu make their own version of the TechTool5 or 6 or 7 whichever.

Nice one Hugh..well rang a mate who is local postman to see if he could collect my package as our office shuts at 12pm and I am away early hours tomorrow until Monday and he has just rang to say he has my package and will drop it off early this evening on his way home..result!:D
How is the boker?

Nice one, it's not what you it's who you know :D

The TT1 is excellent as I expected, razor sharp of course. I have the TT2 already as you know and the blade is exactly the same on both, the different being the TT1 is slimmer and lighter without any of the other tools.

Well just finished unwrapping mine..couple of nice sanrenmus amazingly sharp as seems the norm for these blades. Will get some pics up when I return from my fishing trip if we dont get blown away!!
Have to say though gearbest came up trumps again..I raised a ticket about lack of tracking info etc and was replied to very quickly and even had some helpful follow ups from them. Will place another order next week and see if they can score a hatrick with me and get 3 orders delivered within 3 weeks.

I used to live near Bangor North Wales and they have a great Army and Navy store. They had a line of Jack Pyke brand lock knives. I bought one being sceptical about the quality for £10 but was seriously impressed. Buy a new one every time I visit now.
Very sturdy. Lock works great and they are razor sharp. Definitely worth a look :)

They look pretty reasonably priced on their website, good find.

Well a couple of my knives turned up today.

All three were ordered on 24th October and two were posted out on the 30th October.

All were free flat rate shipping, wonder when I will get the third (posted 10th November)?

Anyway the first one was only a couple of quid but it is razer sharp with a lovely wee dragon design on it, made by SR.

The second one, from SANJIA, is in a different league, beautifully crafted with wood handles that join the steel so smoothly you can't feel the join.

Pretty sharp out of the box but not quite as sharp as the SR, which is good, because the blade fairly snaps home on closing!

I just can't believe they can make a knife with this craftsmanship for four quid!

Second one does look smart with the wood handle. I almost went for one of the top style for work though a plain variant but I've decided to wait till GB sort out my missing order.

That sanjia is very very nice and as you say amazing how they can sell these for the price they do! I wa thinking of placing another order this week.

I ordered another three on Sunday but this time I went with express and tracked postage.

We shall see how fast or not that idea is:rolleyes:

Last of the second lot of three knives arrived this morning, only 11 days after they eventually shipped it.

It's another SanJia knife, not as nice as the last one, more utilitarian, but still lovely crafted.

Not as sharp out the box as the SR and Sanrenmu knives though and not sure how long the coating will last.

Last three knives arrived this morning, only 9 days after I ordered them.

Will put up some pics if I get time tomorrow.

Make time!!!! :P

Too busy with moans to GearBest as they sent me a wrong knife.

The ticket has went back and forward a few times so far:oops: :$

Did you get your delivery sorted out yet, Hugh?

Hah, literally just off the ticket system sending them another roasting, replacement order still not send despite paying extra and promises.

Fed up waiting so I've pressed buy on a PK70 and a Paul Chen Multitool from HH :) at least I know they'll turn up.

The Paul Chen is great for the price and the pk70 is lovely..

OK, my first Enlan, lovely quality, polychromatic colours and blunt as a brick!

Think this is the hardest I have bought so far, 8Cr13Mov stainless steel blade, it certainly took a good long while with the oilstone and strop to put an edge on it.

Next up, a dinky wee SR with a spring lock and razer sharp out of the box.

Lastly, another SR that somebody has put a lot of thought into the design and cut paper OK out of the box though not as sharp as the wee one.

Beautifully crafted with an unusual locking mechanism based around a sort of parallelogram handle, which gives a two-step lock and a very simple unlock.

That last one looks fishy :) I fancy the handle section but don't like the blade shape, the open/close action must be nice though.

I got a surprise tonight, got in from work to find a package from GB and an email saying sorry for the delay we've posted it now. Seems they actually posted it on 17th but forgot to tell me.
Two knives, a little sanrenmu (sharp as a sharp thing) like yours Mike and a Ganzo G718W just because I liked the handle.

nice to see peoples knives turning up at last! I do find the sanrenmu are very very sharp out the box, well most of mine have been

Am I the only person to find this a particularly weird and somewhat disturbing thread to find on a photographic forum? Next time I run into another photographer in the wild I am going to be wondering whether he is carrying a knife.

Its in the Out of focus section for that reason! People do have other interests on this forum other than photography you'll be amazed to know.Your last statement is also pretty silly if you ask me..a knife is a tool not just a weapon. So if you stumbled upon a thread about cars would you be scared of seeing a photographer getting in one with the fear they may run you over??If it doesnt interest you fine move along to something else in the "OUT OF FOCUS" area that does.

I became a collector as a direct result of reading this thread and have found a number of great resources for others things along the way. Heinne Haynes is a really good company to deal with for many things including sharp stuff, not to mention the infamous Chinese sellers discussed at length here.

The wee one is the one I carry most of the time, a quality piece, although I do like the handle on your Ganzo.

Me too!

I can (sort of!) see the attraction of collection OLD knives but new ones are for using and most( especially the cheapies being discussed in this thread) are unlikely to ever be collectible. I see that many of them are of the locking type as well so can't (I should say MAY not...) be carried legally whatever the blade length.

Lock knives (knives with blades that can be locked when unfolded) are not folding knives, and are illegal to carry in public without good reason.

Surely collectors are just that and won't be carrying them around anyway?

From that site...

Good reasons for carrying a knife
Examples of good reasons to carry a knife in public can include:

  • taking knives you use at work to and from work
  • taking knives to a gallery or museum to be exhibited
  • the knife is going to be used for theatre, film, television, historical reenactment or religious purposes, eg the kirpan some Sikhs carry
A court will decide if you’ve got a good reason to carry a knife if you’re charged with carrying it illegally.

Collectors probably won't be carrying them but precious few of the knives on these pages are collectible.

I assume the buyers don't agree with that or they wouldn't be collecting them ;)

or religious purposes
I carry a couple for work, I religiously go to work, so I am excluded on religious grounds :)

I've carried a leatherman with locking blades every working day for ten years or more, I have good reason to have it and have never been queried as to why by anyone.
I don't carry a locking knife because I have and use a very good uk legal one so no need.
The ChInese gear 'we've' been buying is cheap as chips but really good quality stuff, I buy from them only what takes my fancy because it's a bit unusual and I appreciate the style. Some folk collect stamps I don't expect them to run around licking them and sticking them to others.

The last knife I've mentioned buying is a uk legal, Finnish folder that is ten times the price of most of the Chinese stuff, I think it's worth it, it's beautiful and oozes quality. I don't expect anyone else to like it but I'd appreciate being allowed to talk about it with like minded people without others judging me (or at least posting their judgements of me). The contributors to this thread are some of the best behaved, least troublesome members of the forum.

A quick Google of the 2 seem to suggest that neither is Finnish - but I could be wrong. The lower of the 2 looks to be of the locking type so would need a good reason for a UK carry.

There are some nice looking pieces of kit on these pages but properly collectible? Not for a couple of hundred years, if kept unused in their original packaging. I still have a Leatherman wave but haven't carried it since my last boating trip with Dad - which was a good reason for carrying it, as (I presume) is you work. Since I no longer drive LandRovers, I don't even carry the older PST II that I also have.

Sticking with intent, now there is an interesting concept :D

Am I the only person to find this a particularly weird and somewhat disturbing thread to find on a photographic forum? Next time I run into another photographer in the wild I am going to be wondering whether he is carrying a knife.

Photography is well covered by the other forums, and OOF is mainly to let us us discuss (rant about?) just about anything else under the sun. We even allow politics and religion now, which adds to the fun...;)

Why are you going to be wondering about this? I normally carry a Swiss Army Knife or a pocket knife. They're street legal, useful, and I've never felt the slightest inclination to threaten or assault anyone with them. FWIW I prefer lock blades, they're much safer to use, and I routinely carry one in another country where they aren't restricted.

Collectors probably won't be carrying them but precious few of the knives on these pages are collectible.

How do you define collectible? People collect all sorts of things because they want to, and enjoy them. They don't have to be rare, valuable or beautiful in anyone else's eyes.

I wouldn't mind betting that we have all, at one time or another had a folding blade, fold up in use and remove a few layers of skin, from knuckles ;)

Whilst entitled to your opinion, I think perhaps you are getting a wee bit confused with collections being the future value of the knives?

If I decide to collect say, rusty nails, they will become collectable to me but of no monetary value.

I doubt if most folk need more than one or two knives, so more becomes a collection and I become a collector.

For me it is really a question of starting small and perhaps building up to more expensive knives.

I find it hard to explain why I am buying knives, mostly I just like the different shapes, amazing quality and designs.

As for carrying a knife, I've had one in my pocket for many decades and very handy it has been too.
.

Yes Mike, the Enzo but the Scandi grind one, it will be my 3rd Enzo knife when I pick it up from the post office tomorrow :)
As for is it collectable? There are hunners o'thoosans of old cameras out there, all collectible and generally worthless, I have some myself.
