As I live alone, and my only family is either abroad or too far to see, I'm free to do what every I like on Tuesday and Wednesday.

I wish to ask if anyone has any idea where to go shooting in the Greater Manchester area say 30 miles from Bolton, I guess Christmas day will be a no go, but what about Boxing Day

Why not go over to Salford Quays?

Some great architecture there and if your luck on boxing day, it'll be deserted.

I'd say Salford Quays too...and I bet you can get away with parking on double yellows too!
Or maybe up Winter Hill for some scenery (if the weather is nice of course)

Shame you gotta be on your own on xmas day. Are you into architecture?? If so make the most as xmas day will be empty, get around some of those interesting local buildings you always said you would.

Or visit that lonely pensioner down the road and share stories.

why not travel over to liverpool, i think its brilliant for photos, or blackpool. u have the xmas lights

and to quote crispy burger, theres nothing quite like an out of season holiday town in the rain

I am going to travel into Newcastle and buy all the camera gear i didn't get for christmas with the £240 ive got kicking around. So new cf cards tripod bag maybe filter to protect lens you know the stuff.... Why don't you do that for a christmas present for yourself !

Thanks guys, some good ideas. Hadn't really thought about going into a city, but I may get some "28 Days Later" type empty streets if I go on Xmas day.

I have a look at the unibond site, but that does mean I'd have to go to a football match :gag:

Good grief, get into the city!! If I was on my own, its where I would be spending xmas day, just think how quiet it will be! In fact, if brat goes too mad with the new lecct guitar, I might anyway

oh, take a flask of tea/coffee, as no where will be open, and some sarnies and enjoy! :D

Salford Quays sounds like a winner, I have never been there,I might just go have a look myself it only 100 miles for me. Have to give the weather forecast a look.;)

What about a steam railway?! I'm sure the East Lancashire Railway would be open!

Just checked for you and here's the timetable!

http://east-lancs-rly.co.uk/timetable/?t=purple

and the website says also this!

Why not join us on the East Lancashire railway for a ride behind one of our restored steam engines along the Irwell Valley. As a special treat each passenger who purchases a tea, coffee or hot chocolate will receive a free mince pie (subject to availability) courtesy of the ELR.

I also recommend Salford Quays.

I have been there a few times and will be going back once I have bought a tripod and a larger zoom lens.

Why don't ya just head down to either Haigh Hall, The Canal, Scotmans or Pennington Flash, 3 Sisters, Abby Lakes, Worthington Lakes, Ashurst Becon, Parbold Hill and surronding area, Bolton Town Center, Wigan Town Center, Manchester City Center, Preston City Center & Southport loads of places to visit :)
