Hey,

Took a trip to Plas Newydd but the weather was just boring! No sunny sky, no dramatic sky, just clouds. Took pics mostly in the garden, but the house is so lovely. Can anything be done to liven these up a bit?

Thanks
Tina :)

Not to everyone's taste, but this is what I have came up with in 30 seconds. Not sure I'd call it an "improvement" though.

Contrast boost , upped the saturation and a little USM.

Hi Tina,

Unfortunately when the weather is like this it really doesn't help add any "life" to the shots, I like the composition of the 1st with the bridge in the background.... one thing I remember most about my visit here though was the stunning backdrop of the Snowdonia mountains across the Menai Straits, the best vantage point probably being the path at the top of the hill before reaching the house...did you take anything like that too?

Thanks, unfortunatly there was an exhibition or something going on. There were vans and cars everywhere. This was the only place really that allowed any shots without them. And with the weather you couldnt see much of the landcsape. I will be going back soon, ill look out for where you described.

Shinkansen; for some reason that reminds me of the novel Wuthering Heights, thanks!

Rocket, they look a little like a painting now, thanks.

namllihs, looks a little better! thanks

Escy, Thanks, it looks amazing. I feel lost without my photoshop!

Hi Tina, you have asked for ideas but have not ticked your edit button - if you don't like this I will delete it
Another variation

I LOVE it!!!!! haha, im glad I wasn't driving on the bridge when that happened!

In your original image some of the sky is blown. Nice house, 2 up and 2 down!!!

You haven't ticked the box to allow anyone to edit. I can't post attachments. Have used shadow/highlights then levels, increasing the colour chanels.

Figured out the tick! Thanks

Looks great Chaz, new sky?

Please feel free to do a funny one, like Kerioak, I did say I wanted to liven it up! ;) I could do with a laugh.

Yes it is BUT I did try with your sky but I thought that a blue sky would lift it more.
I take photos of different skies with light coming from different angles and also blue to red, little cloud to lots
It’s good to keep a set of them for days when sky is not interesting

The black and white pallet (in cs3/4) selected the infra red option, tweeked the setttings to bring back the worst of the blown out grass, then filter/distort/diffuse glow, played around with the settings glow was low-ish and clear was fairly high from memory (cant remember the exact numbers I'm afraid). Wayne

EDIT it might have been 2 2 16 (if it stays at last used) also make sure to reset the default colour first.

And here is another:)

I've tried to duplicate this but end up with something much darker however much I play with the settings. Specifically the tree on the right is very dark. I am correct to you a BW adjustment layer using infrared? Thanks :)

Yes Tom, I used the infra red but did alter the settings, can't remember what I altered sadly mate. Thinking now I might have done a bit of shadow/highlights first, not sure, sorry I can't be more helpfull, I just played about with it.

Thanks Wayne, the Shadow/Highlights really helped me get a lot closer. The path still baffles me how you got so much texture in your version but I'm a lot closer and learnt a bit from trying! Thanks very much for the pointers.

Thanks also to Tina for sharing the pics which I've had fun playing with! Nice shots. :)

oooh! i think Kerioak's version adds another dimension to the pic! :)

Here's my effort

As RAF Mildenhall celebrated their 75th Anniversary yesterday I thought perhaps a couple of Spitfires would go well in your pic.

Your very welcome Tom, glad to help. Wayne

I liked Eskys version and then I saw TinySparks which is the pick of the bunch for me.
