Yes
As usual my central heating has packed up at the weekend in winter.

The boiler is working, the pump is rotating but no heating or hot water.

Any ideas?

My thoughts are either it is the 3 port valve or although the pump shaft is rotating, the impeller isn't - I can't 'hear' any water movement.

If it's a matter of replacing the pump I'll have a go, but I can ill afford to waste nearly £80 plus a wrench to fit it!

Not a heating engineer but.... what do you mean the boiler is working? does the flow pipe get hot at the boiler end but no further? If so that would indicate a pump problem.
Are we talking convention boiler with external pump or an all in one combi thing?

Normally a lever on a motorized valve, you could always unscrew the head and twist the spigot manually.

Is the boiler firing, and is the heat just going run the pump bypass?

If its a Grundfoss or similar pump you can just change the head.

More info man:thumbs:

Just checked - both pipes from the boiler are cold!

So its not firing then, apart from checking the reset switch if there is one or the pressure if its a combi not much you can do.

All depends on what type of boiler you have. Could be anything from the air pressure switch to the micro switch on the motorized valve.

Thanks, I've resigned myself to the fact I'll have to call someone out.

Next time I'll take out additional insurance for emergency call out on the home insurance and not be a cheapskate!

It could still be a valve, thermostat or controller depending on how the system is wired.
My boiler doesn't fire until either the hot water valve or the heating valve is fully open.

Asking the obvious, but, is the pilot light lit?

I helped out with a boiler problem once. traced the fault to lack of gas. Someone had thrown a bag into the understairs cupboard and managed to operate the main gas tap with it :) Always pays to check the obvious first.

called engineer out - over £100

Oil pump on boiler gone and probably the electronic unit as well!

Not quite as much as a new boiler but bad enough.
