Hi all,

Want to sell this circular saw on gumtree but I don't know how to describe it properly. Can anyone give a bit more info on what exactly it is?

Its pretty heavy and has 4 holes in the base so I think its meant to be mounted on a bench or something. The saw bit slides back and forth on the cylinder thingy. I plugged it in and squeezed the handle and it still working.

Cheers all.

its called a chop saw, it can also cut mitre joints.

I can't see a manufacturers name on it though.

:)

Yes it's a compound mitre saw.

The 4 large holes allow you to fix it to a saw bench if required.

You say it still works and slides back and forth, does the saw still move left / right as well ?

Great, thanks Andy.

Err, how do I make it move left/right? Theres like a round base bit with, I assume, degree markings on it so maybe the angle of the saw can be rotated around the centre point? Is that what you mean?

Assuming it does all work, what do you think would be a reasonable price for it? It is a bit rusty in places and I just want shot basically. £40 maybe? (Hope I'm not breaking any rules asking this stuff, its not photography related so hopefully not)

Thanks.

looks like a charnwood make saw...
Thanks Mark

Me neither, most odd. Still if I can get a few quid for it, jobs a good un.

Going by the colours it looks like a Makita chopsaw, £40.00 is a bargain whoever gets it at that price. There is worse looking ones on Ebay selling for a lot more.

Cheers. Maybe I'll try £80 then :) I'll have to have another go over it and see if I can find a manufacturers name somewhere.

Just looked at Makita and they dont seem to have any yellow on them, mainly the blue-y colour.

Looks like the blade moves backward/forwards, if it does, make sure you mention it's a sliding chop saw, makes a big difference.

Yes it does, on the silver cylinder thing that you can see part rusted at one end on the right in both pics. I couldnt figure out how to adjust the mitre angle yesterday, will have another look later. And also I think it must adjust off 90° vertical too because there's another angle adjustment thingy above the yellow lever on the left in pic #1. I think to cut compound mitres.

Wonder If I could clean the rust off and make it more appealing?

Its a sliding compound mitre saw, and its a charnwood not a makita (you can see the outline of the logo in the first picture) £80 is still fair though (the equivalent new is a couple of hundred notes, although they now have twin slides for greater accuracy)

Step awaaaaay from the power saw Pete; just back slowly away.
We all know that you're not fit to be let loose around machinery  :bonk:

Lol - I was using a chainsaw earlier and i still have all my digits and appendages

Even a bit rusty as pictured is it worth a go for £80 then folks? Why not I suppose!

Cheers.

p.s. moose, I think ruth's stalking you, why else would she come in here? :exit:

Virtually all the female members are stalking me (even the female mods - they say they are keeping an eye on my behaviour, but I can see through that hollow cover story :suspect:) - its an occupational hazard with being ruggedly good looking yet suave and debonair (and modest).. don't worry i'm used to it :exit:

Good luck with your sale - you may have to come down a bit but its a reasonable asking price. BTW if you pm me a link to your ad i'll mention it on a couple of woodworking forums for you

Cheers Pete, not posted the ad yet (might try and clean it up a bit first) I'll try and remember to send the link.

[I know what you mean about the stalking. My last wife left me because she said I was big-headed, vain and self-deluded. But the real problem was that my **** was too big for her.]

I'm sure ARSE doesn't get changed to ****!!!

If I was in a position to collect it and needed one, I would be tempted to suggest you lobbed it in the Non Photographic section of the classifieds but TBH, I don't really have a use for it at the moment or the space to stash it on spec!
